Tonight's performance was incredible. A class act..

Idina was perfect. A real pep in her step. She added facial expressions and body movements I have never seen before and I have seen this show ALOT. She was on the money acting wise, vocally, etc.

Needless to say when Idina came out the audience went wild. She had to pause until the noise died down as you couldn't hear her lines.

The best part was when Kristin and Idina were performing "Popular"
and they are on Glindas bed. Glinda holds up the mirror and says "Look at you Elphie, you're beautiful". She then kept the mirror there and said "It looks like a Tony". The audience went nuts and applauded and screamed. Idina was so moved that she hugged Kristin and they hugged for quite some time. Idina couldn't get her composure to go on with her line "I have to go". She and Kristin were both emotional as the audience kept applauding. Idina finally giggled a little and got herself back on track. Needless to say, the tears were rolling down my cheeks and the cheeks of the women sitting next to me. A classy act.

They were both very emotional after that as they had to wipe away tears on several ocassions. When they did "For Good" you could see the sincerity in both of them. They were very physical. Again, more waterworks for me and the folks in my row(and I have never cried at this show!)

It was an incredible night that I will never forget.

Real classy way for Kristin to thank Idina for saying "I love you" at the Tony's.

They both came out and signed at the stage door afterward. We waited a long time for Idina because there were a number of celebs(Mandy Moore, her boyfriend from Counting Crows, etc) who went to see Idina backstage.

What a night!

The "It Looks like a TONY" reference was made about the mirror(which was new and shining brightly). It was clearly an homage to her win.

So they have TONYS in Oz? At first I thought the suggestion was that her hair looked like a Toni home permanent, but then, they probably don't have those in Oz either.

I remember the first performance after the Tonys when Chorus Line won, Donna sang, "GOD I'm a dancer, a dancer who just won the Tony two nights ago!" and the place went INSANE. Michael Bennet then came down the aisle dressed in the Zach outfit and went up onstage and hugged her. All the kids broke from the line and circled them and the audience was just clapping and weeping. It was so fantastic.

That is so incredibly adorable that it's insane. I was so happy when she was thanking Kristin and they were both crying. They are so cute, I Love Kristin and Idina so much. But I mean really, if they were like this, after the Tony Awards, like that emotional as described, imagine how it will be the night Kristin leaves.

I can't even think about it! It'll be like watching one of my sisters go off to war without ever knowing if she will ever come back! I can't believe she could leave us in the Wicked family, you know? I mean, we are a family, right?

Namo - your point is taken - and i'm sure somewhere, theatre veterans are cursing their progency and the dead are rolling in their graves. BUT, it doesn't seem to me that they dedicated the evenings entire performance to a celebration - it was the two actressess that everybody knows have been through this, and so they took the opportunity to acknowledge what everybody was thinking about anyway. The audience - by report, anyway - ate it up. So, pure theatrical action? No. Excusable - even enjoyable, for those with the capacity? Absolutely.

Anne Heche was there too because she was sitting next to me (and I was directly behind Mandy Moore and the Counting Crows dude)

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

Namo:
Thank you for your account of the night after A Chorus Line won.

When the cast of Chorus Line broke character for their first apres-Tony performance the guy who played Richie was seen doing the first known historical "raise the roof" motions with his hands.

Unbeknownst to anyone in the rapturous CHORUS LINE audience was the cynical kill-joy sitting alone in his room, pouring his heart out into his new cassette player/recorder - "Why, oh why do they think this is what's real? This is not what Broadway is, was or is supposed to be - or life, for that matter! - Where's my qualude?"

I made the whole thing up. Michael Bennett would have SHOT any actor who tried such a stunt.

And Busby Berkley would have shot Michael Bennett just because.

I can see that... but maybe I'm a sucker for "back in the day" stories as opposed to the "Kristin sneezed during POPULAR tonight" stories.

Then you'ld love hearing about how Ann Miller accidentally pulled Mickey Rooney's wig off during SUGAR BABIES one night - except I wouldn't want to offend anyone with tales of their unprofessional laughter and moment of spontenaity with the audience. Zeigfield would have SHOT them.

Probably not. Vaudeville. Spontaneous. Makes sense in the context. Etcetera.

And WICKED is what, grand opera? Good god, it's not like Jefferson Mays had Charlotte turn to the audience and say, "I hid the Tony in my privates - the nazis will never find it there!"

But wouldn't it be just adorable and endearing if he did? The whole audience would be in on it and it would be so cute and people who weren't there would be saying how much they wish they had been!
