I've loved James Corden since One Man Two Govnors, but I think his Carpool Karaoke / Sidewalk Muslcals / I'm-obsessed-with-musicals schtick has gotten pretty stale. I'd imagine this will be more of the same.
I much preferred the theoretical John Mulaney / Rachel Bloom hosting pairing. But I knew that was never going to happen anyway.

Snarky reply. How predictable.

FWIW... I went to a taping of the Late Show, and he does a Q&A with the audience as a warmup before they start filming the show.Someone asked him, "I know you're a big Broadway fan, if you could be in any show on Broadway, what would you do?" And he looked right at Jon Batiste, who looked at the band, and they immediately busted into "Heaven on Their Minds." Colbert knew it backwardsand forwards, and totally sold it. (Entirely possible that the whole thing was staged, but my gut says it wasn't.)
That's anecdotal, but I came away from that taping without a doubt in my mind that he really is a well-seasoned Broadway fan.
IMHO Ienjoy both him and Cordon (and John Mulaney), and would've been happy with anyof them!

I WAS THE ONE WHO ASKED HIM THAT QUESTION!!! Wow, such a small world. It was the taping with Elizabeth Warren, Eric Stonestreet, and Jason Jones. And no, it wasn't remotely staged. My guess is Colbert and the band had recently been fooling around with that song or just talking about it maybe, but I was stunned when it happened. An all-time cool moment.

Ha! No way! Small world indeed. And yes... it was such a great moment, and made me love him that much more.
