Who would we like to see host the event? I personally would love to see them tap someone like Cher, but barring that... John Mulaney after his excellent Co-op parody.
"
Mulaney isn't a big enough name, and Cher wouldn't do it!

Ideas that probably won't happen:
- Stephen Colbert & Laura Benanti
- Bette Midler
- Lin-Manuel Miranda
- Tina Fey
"CBS choices":
- Christine Baranski and Audra McDonald (Good Fight costars)
- Allison Janney (Mom)
- The Sheldons: Jim Parsons and Iain Armitage
- Colbert/Benanti
I'm sure Colbert has been offered it every year since 2015. Also, it's a perfect Emmy campaign bit: Emmy nomination voting begins the day after the Tonys. His Tony hosting would be considered in the following year, but it could boost his profile for the Late Show, which has lost to John Oliver every year.
I love the idea of John Mulaney, with or without Nick Kroll. He means about as much as Alan Cumming & Kristin Chenoweth, he's hosting SNL for the second time in a year, and he recently won an Emmy.
Oscars ratings didn't go down without a host, so perhaps the Tonys go hostless like in 2006/07 if they can't get a major name. (Glen Weiss produces/directs both the Tonys and Oscars)

I always thought David Hyde Pierce or Matthew Morrison would make good hosts.

I could go for a David Hyde Pierce/Kelsey Grammer co-host wihere at the end they announce they’re doing a Frasier reboot for CBS Television.

Sounds great to me as hosts. If they did a reboot it would be a bit sad since John Mahoney (their Dad on the show) passed away.

This is the funniest thing I’ve read on this board

Wrong network. FRASIER is owned by NBC, not CBS.

The Oscars have enough nationally recognizable talent present to allow them to go without a host. The Tony Awards rely on a personality that has gone mainstream in order to attract viewers.
I think the Tony Awards will always need a "name" host to find an audience big enough to warrant the broadcast.
This piece names all of the past Tony hosts. There have been shows with no hosts, though:

Given the success of POSE and his red-carpet appeal, I think Billy Porter would be a good choice.

Actually Frasier aired on NBC, but is owned by CBS Studios so a revival would be shopped around. I mentioned it only because Kelsey Grammer has been saying lately that a new series is likely to happen.

I am there for this.

Don't the Tonys have a rule where the host must have performed on Broadway before?
