Posted: 5/1/09 at 1:05pmUgh...why are all three ladies considered lead actress...huge mistake.

Swenson being featured is not silly in my opinion. Megan could have been a dark horse in Featured Actress, but I guess it's down to Gwynne and Olivo for the win.

Posted: 5/1/09 at 1:07pmbjh2114, why is the Swenson decision a silly choice? His character does not have that much more importance over anyone else in the tribe (except Claude, of course). I think Featured Actor is the right place for Swenson.

PJ ain't gonna like that.
That opens up Featured Actress in a Musical a bit,
hopefully now Allison Case will get a well deserved nod.

All three 9 TO 5 women ARE equally the leads. It would be silly to place any of them in Featured.
Will Swenson will WIN now that he is Featured. That is GREAT news.

Dennehy as featured is what shocks me.
Glad that all 4 GUYS AND DOLLS people are considered leads.

That is true, Foster. They all are leads and I'm not denying that. I thought the producers would want to manipulate the placement a bit though.
To all those who said Josefina Scaglione would be featured because of past nominations for the role, bah! I knew they wouldn't want her competing with Karen.
Swenson does not necessarily have it in the bag, but he definitely has a better shot now. Three-horse race I would think.

Dennehy being featured is bizarre -- he is top-billed over Schreiber, who is staying put in Lead.
I don't think that having all 3 ladies in 9 to 5 in Lead is a bad decision for the production. Their competition (aside from Alice Ripley) is weak, and I think all 3 of them will be nominated. Keeping them all in lead opens the door for Kathy Fitzgerald to get a nomination for Featured.
I think 9 to 5 is getting 5 acting nominations (Block, Hilty, Janney, Fitzgerald, Kudisch), which will be the most for a single production in a while. That will get them some post-Tony noms publicity, and also potentially sets them up for having more nominations than any other show. (I think Billy is getting three acting noms -- the Billys, Gwynne, and Jbara -- so 9 to 5 will have to be left out of 3 other categories for Billy to get the most noms.)

WannaBe, as great as Swenson is, I still think Seiber has the edge.
So this means the Producers of NINE TO FIVE petitioned for the three Ladies.
Kathy Fitzgerald may have lucked out also from that decision.

Three women of 9 to 5 in the same category means one of them stands a chance of being left out.
Also, not having at least one in featured makes a nomination for Jennifer Damiano very likely. I agree it's definitely Gwynne or Olivo for the win, though.

I don't think Swenson is silly in featured for the purposes of winning an award. I just think it's almost insulting to label Berger a featured character. Berger and Claude have just as many songs and just as much stage time. Claude is only seems more leading because he has the dramatic plot line. My logic about this is similar to WAB's logic on the 9 to 5 ladies.
On the flip side, my Hilty comment is similar to WAB's logic for Swenson. If they wanted Megan to win, they should have put her in featured.

I agree that Damiano will probably be nominated now...and maybe even Carole Shelley.
Gwynne
Olivo
Damiano
Shelley
Plimpton
Am I leaving someone out?
#15re: Tony Awards Administration Committee Announces Eligibility for 9 to 5,
Posted: 5/1/09 at 1:19pmI still think Blickenstaff gets a nomination. Call me crazy, but I see it happening. Also Fitzgerald definitely gets one over Shelley.

I think Featured is going to be:
Blackwell
Blickenstaff
Gwynne
Plimpton
Olivo

Thank you, bjh. I was leaving out Fitzgerald.
Jennifer Damiano
Kathy Fitzgerald
Haydn Gwynne
Karen Olivo
Martha Plimpton
Those are who should be nominated in my opinion.
Foster, I'm glad you love [tos] so much, but Blackwell has ZERO chance of being nominated. Heidi does have a slim chance I suppose.

Foster, nice lineup. I'd be fine with that. I don't see it happening though. :)

People in the industry heart [tos]. You may end up surprised.
Joanna Gleason is a huge vocal [tos] supporter. She is on the Nominating Committee.

Posted: 5/1/09 at 1:32pmWhile all three of the 9 to 5 ladies are leading, placing Hilty in the Featured Actress category wouldn't have hurt.

I completely agree with you that people in the industry love [tos]. I think that *could* mean a nomination for Heidi though, not Susan.
If they both get noms, yes, I will be shocked.
#23re: Tony Awards Administration Committee Announces Eligibility for 9 to 5,
Posted: 5/1/09 at 1:36pmAllison Case is not happening. I lover her. So much. But no.

I will be shocked. Pleasantly shocked.
With vote splitting, none of the ladies in 9 to 5 have a shot at winning. And now it will be sad if one of them is left off the list (I could see Stephanie being left out). This all solidified Alice's Tony, not like it wasn't already happening...
I guess this means all the Norman players are featured.
