I knew Josefina and Matt would be leading, It was quite obvious.
I am sure PalJoey will come in here soon and post what a slap in the face it is to have Josefina in leading.
Yes, Alice Ripley *definitely 100%* has already won. So the comment someone on this board made to her at the opening night party of "congrats on winning the Tony Award" will come true (and didn't we all bash him for that?)
Stephanie Block
Allison Janney
Sutton Foster
Megan Hilty
Alice Ripley
Josefina Scaglione
Out of these six women, one will be left out - I hope it is Sutton Foster.
Yup, that was me, Trace.
Riedel's article in the Post today stated a huge amount of love for Shelley in BILLY.
I think it'll be:
Damiano, Shelley, Gwynne, Olivo, Plimpton with Olivo deservedly taking home the gold.
And for Lead Actress, will it be Hilty, Block, Janney, Ripley, Scaglione? Thoughts?
Riedel's article also highlighted a huge LACK of support for SHREK. That, plus three previous nominations and one win, will push Foster out of the running in my opinion.

Well, WiCkEDrOcKS, you were correct. This award is a no-brainer now.
As for Featured Actress, I still have hope that Hadyn Gwynn takes it! Not sure Shelley will get a nom over Fitzgerald, but if the nominating committee goes solely by the reviews, she will.
Also, bjh, how is Swenson being pushed to Featured (as it should be) silly? He should be nominated for featured, now has a real shot at winning, and isn't competing against Creel. I think it's really smart...and also appropriate.

BOLD PREDICTION. Janney is the only 9to5er in the leading actress nominations.

I don't think Foster OR Scaglione are going to be nominated.
Scaglione gives a generic, boring performance as Maria in a DOA revival of WSS.
Foster is giving her least distinguished performance to date in SHREK. I doubt she will be nominated.
I think the fifth slot is going to go to Kate Jennings Grant for her breakthrough standout musical performance in an otherwise bad revival of GUYS AND DOLLS.
Did you read my post Rocks? I said it's silly based on content. Is it smart? Yes, he is more likely to win in the featured category. But in terms of stage time and solo singing time, he is equal to Claude. Claude just sticks out more because of his dramatic arc. It's silly in the sense that the writers of Hair would never call Berger a featured character.
I don't think Kate Jennings Grant is getting nominated over Josefina.
The WEST SIDE STORY revival is going to receive two nominations: Best Revival and Best Featured Actress.
Nothing else. And that's all it deserves.
I see the people in WAT's lists (leading/featured) being the actual nominees.
I agree Josefina is the weakest of that group.
Sutton is Really a TONY favorite, they usually Love everything she does.
Reidel has been bashing SHREK from day one.

-That's why she was nominated for YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN?

So....
are we to assume the entire casts of Norman Conquests and Joe Turner are eligible in Featured? Were any of them billed above the title?
Thanks
All featured.
Anyone think the entire cast of NORMAN will get nominated? I hope so!
"Anyone think the entire cast of NORMAN will get nominated? I hope so!"
Yes please! Even though they will end up splitting the votes, they are all worthy of nominations.
Definitely not happening. That would only leave 2 male and 2 female spots open for ALL of the plays this season. My money is on Paul Ritter and Amanda Root being definitely nominated. If a second set of them are to be nominated, I guess Jessica Hynes and Ben Miles. Honestly, I don't see Stephen Mangan getting a nomination, even if he plays the title character.
Question for those who believe Karen Olivo should win over Hadyn Gwynn:
If two brilliant seasoned dancers Chita Rivera (not nominated) and Debbie Allen did not get Tony Awards for their performances in WEST SIDE STORY, won't it be morally wrong if Karen Olivo (a non-trained dancer who contributes to make "America" a lackluster number when it should be a showstopper) won the Tony Award this year? Don't get me wrong, I *loved* her performance overall, but "America" was disappointing to me.
My vote would be for Hadyn.
I think Martha is going to sneak in and win.
I thought Martha deserved to win for THE COAST OF UTOPIA...
I think IF Martha is nominated, she could pose a threat. I still think that Hadyn will take it. I love Martha Plimpton, and her time will surely come (I still Ehle was rightfully awarded that Tony, though).
I don't think, at this point, that Raul will be nominated for Best Leading Actor in a Play. I think the nominees will be:
Jeff Daniels, GOD OF CARNAGE
James Gandolfini, GOD OF CARNAGE
Bill Irwin, WAITING FOR GODOT
Geoffrey Rush, EXIT THE KING
Thomas Sadowski, REASONS TO BE PRETTY
And don't put TOO much stock in Riedel's opinion: last year, he thought Nathan Lane was a shoo-in for a NOVEMBER nomination, as well as Tony Roberts for XANADU.
(and if Jeff Daniels is considered Featured, than replace his name with Rupert Everett. These rules are a little confusing... :)
Every performer in NORMAN CONQUESTS is Featured.
Oh, sorry about that. Thanks, Foster.
