Robbiej - the fact that you know the lyrics to that lovely "Saved By the Bell" song IS horrifying!! But it also makes you my hero because anyone who sings those lyrics is the king of the universe. Too bad I definitely have that song burned on CD..
And thanks everyone for your opinions. I can't waaait for the nominations to be announced... I'm really hoping for Stephanie D'Abruzzo to take Best Actress but I know that's just crazy dreams... I honestly don't see why Kristin Chenoweth should even be eligible for Best Actress. Glinda is not a huge role, definitely not as meaty as Elphaba, I don't know. Eh. And I realy hope Avenue Q takes best musical..

Saved By the Bell was the show I grew up and right when I saw your picture, that song played in my head! Haha! I was inlove with Zack Morris. But anyways, I'll add my 2 cents.
Best Musical
Avenue Q (The most originality out of the shows that opened this year.)
Best Score
Taboo (The music is what held this show together and is probably one of the most brilliant pieces seen this year.)
Best Orchestration
Wicked
Best Revival of a Musical
Wonderful Town (They have to pay back Donna in someway for not getting the Best Actress Award.)
Best Choreography
Bombay Dreams (The dancing was so hot- Like something taken right out of a Britney Spears dance video. It glued me to my seat!)
Best Actress in a Musical
Idina Menzel (This is how I figure- Donna Murphey has a great comedic role this year and does a swell job with, but she also has tow Tonys so she is cancelled out plus her role doesnt show must emotional depth. Its not a role that sweeps you off your feet and sends you to tears. Stephane D'Ambruzzo is a newcomer and though she does an excellent job with puppetry, singing, and acting, her role isnt as demanding physically as something like Elphaba or Caroline, so she will not get the award. Tonya Pinkins even though I hear she is utterly amazing and will melt you in your seat, she has a Tony Award already and I think that is going to work against her. Chenoweth, also with a Tony on her back, doesn't take the audience's emotions the way Elphaba does and this is more the green one's story anyhow. So Idina because she got screwed over for Rent and someone with a voice like her deserves it. I dont think there will ever be another Idina again in the history of musical theater.)
Best Actor in a Musical
Hugh Jackman (He is the show.)
Best Featured Actress in a Musical
Anne Harida (I would love to see Ayesha Darker or Anne take this award, but I feel that Anne has this in the bad already.)
Best Featured Actor in a Musical
Raul Esperaza (If Joel Grey wins this award, I officially hate the Tonys.)
Best Play
I am My Own Wife
Best Revival of a Play
Sly Fox (This is the only play I saw, so I am probably completely wrong, but I did love this show even if it doesnt win!)
And thats about it- I havent seen enough plays to comments on the actors and actressess. Well thats my story and I'm stickin to it.

anyone else think some of these opinions are way off??
no offense to you guys, i love you all. and i NEVER start fights in here, but i don't know - just seems some of your choices are stretches. i wish we could do a pool, like the NCCA Basketball Tournaments...that we be fun..can we possibly make a Yahoo Group with it, and see who gets the most correct choices? i know they have a Yahoo Oscar Pick-em.
just a thought

ASSASSSSSINS!!!
did anyone see those fierce triples that Sam Byck did during his monologues?? Mario is one dancing freak!! :)

Those triples were nothing compared to Balladeer/Proprietor pas de deux! It moved me to tears.
If only our lovely Jessie Spano could eek out a nom for SLY FOX! DARE TO DREAM, KIDS!!!
And I'll say it again: if Michael Cerveris does not win the supporting actor Tony this year, there is some profound displacement going on in the universe.
PS...SBTB fans...you can pick up original, in-the-box SAVED BY THE BELL dolls at Howdy-Do on E. 7th Street (I bought their Slater for $45 for my friend's 30th Bday). And guess who's the most expensive...SCREECH!!! Why? Cause the company made so few of them because they thought he wouldn't sell. Poor poor Dustin!

Posted: 4/28/04 at 1:05pmI absolutely disagree with you Elphie. I respect your love for Menzel but her sudden popularity has more to do with the vehicle she's in than with the performance. As I see it, everyone on this board is crazy about the understudy(her name escapes me at the moment) too, which tells me, it's more about the role. Let's not forget that but for a short stint in Aida, Menzel hasn't been *on* B'way since RENT. Not to take anything away from her at the present time, but she's nowhere near the actress that Pinkins is, or Murphy for that matter. She was on no one's "short list" for great musical theater *actresses* until very recently. Hey, I could be wrong, we'll see. A nomination, yes, a win, doubtful.

Posted: 4/28/04 at 1:16pmtotally agree...she's a darling with a fierce voice, her acting is getting better - but its very doubtful she will win the Tony.

Posted: 4/28/04 at 5:23pmJoel Gray will get one not just based on his truly stellar performance as the Wizard but also because he is old, very very old. "Wonderful" is a GREAT song that showcases his vocal range unlike those other hacks hoofing on the Great White Way this year. Hugh who? Joel sings and dances rings around Jackman. Come that hot, muggy night in June Joel Gray will be rewarded for being the rare talent that he is.

Seriously? I mean...really? WONDERFUL is a great song?

This year it's really tough to determine who's going to win what, or even who's going to get nominated.
Best musical:
Wicked, Avenue Q, Caroline or Change, Bombay Dreams, and possibly Assassins (if it's going to be a new musical or not).
Best actress (of course, the hardest category it seems this year!):
Idina Menzel, Kristen Chenoweth, Stephanie D'Abruzzo, Tonya Pinkins, and I hope, possibly, Kerry Butler.
Best actor:
Hugh Jackman (of course he's going to win!), Alfred Molina, John Tartaglia, Euan Morton.
I really can't wait until May 10th. This is driving me crazy.

I'm surprised that there is no buzz over Douglas Sills for 'Best Featured Actor'.
Technically, he has a very chance of winning... for the following reasons:
1) Some think that he was snubbed for "Pimpernel"
2) I have heard nothing but amazing things about his performance.
3) He juggles several different, wacky characters each night.
4) This might be "Little Shop"'s only chance at an actual win (aside from "Best Musical Revival", which will still probably go to "Wonderful Town".)

Posted: 4/29/04 at 12:01amThe reason Sills' chances haven't been trumpeted on this thread can be summarized in one word: Assassins. Who knows how many noms that show will get in the Featured Actor category.
