What has a chance at an "upset" this season. I'll go with
Featured Actress:
Orfeh COULD pull off a HUGE upset over Mary-Louise Wilson. Don't see it happening though.
Leading Actor:
Michael Cerveis has a chance of taking it over Raul Espereza. More likely than the last one. David Peirce could take it, also.
Just the ones off the top of my head. Agree? Disagree? Any others?
Frankly, Orfeh doesn't stand a chance. If anyone beats Mary Louise, it's going to be Karen Ziemba. As for Michael over Raul, that wouldn't be an upset. I think David, Raul, and Michael have equal shots. The only way this category will have an upset is if Groff or Gavin Lee wins.
Orfeh doesn't have a chance in hell.
I think the definition of an upset is if the person who is pretty much universally expected to win ends up losing to someone else. I think the only categories this applies to are leading actress in a musical, best play, and best revival of a play. Ebersole is the only nominee this year who is definitely expected to win. Therefore, if the award goes to Murphy, McDonald, Bundy, or Monk, it will be an upset. Also, if Coast of Utopia and Journey's End lose to anything else, that will be an upset. All other categories are pretty much up for grabs.
I agree that lead actor is probably a race between Michael, Raúl and DHP. I'd love to say anyone beating out Raúl would be an "upset," but that'd be naive. He's extraordinary, but that may not be enough. (And it's Esparza.)
I think Wilson is pretty much a lock. THough, for some reason I will never understand, people love The Zzzzzzzzzzzziemba.

You guys are right about those three for leading actor. None of them would be an upset. Groff winning would be an upset...and I think a lot of people would have something to say about that.
Please. He is not winning.
RADIO GOLF - Best Play
David Grindley - Best Director of a Play for JOURNEY'S END
To be honest, I keep forgetting that he was even nominated. Someone said "the only upset would be if Groff or Gavin Lee won" and I was like "Um? Groff??" and then remembered that he was nominated.
I wouldn't mind terribly if Audra won over Christine, but it would be a surprise.
Yeah,
The whole lack-of-Les-Mis-thing is kind of bothering,
but I'm not surprised,
still bothered.
Well Star, I agree but I was talking to my voice teacher today and we were talking about the Tonys, and when I mentioned the lack of LES MIS she said "Well they probably don't even consider it a revival since it's exactly what it was when it was on Broadway". *shrugs* I thought Les Mis was considerably better than A Chorus Line (and it's my favorite show) but critics didn't take to it and it wasn't as big of a deal as everyone who was involved with the show expected it to be, you know?
As much as I love the show, Les Mis had it's time and I love it being back but what cannn you do?
I can see any of the following happening:
-MARY POPPINS taking Best Musical
-A CHORUS LINE taing Best Musical Revival
-David Hyde Pierce taking Best Actor in a Musical
-Anthony Chisholm taking Best Featured Actor in a Play
-Martha Plimpton taking Best Featured Actress in a Play
-David Grindley taking Best Direction of a Play
-Bill T. Jones taking Choreography
It would be like if Mel Brooks announced a revival of THE PRODUCERS three years from now. Would you expect it to win 10 more Tony Awards, or even have the right to take nomination slots away from new productions?
Exactly Foster.
ahhhh! Testing- no! Don't jinx "Utopia"! It totally deserves to win. I don't even want to hear "upset" and "Utopia" in the same sentence. After this one. Starting now. Yes.....
Poppins will win.
And I hope Luker does over both Orfeh and MLW.

Mary Poppins is NOT going to win - Spring Awakening is going to win. Mary Poppins best chances are in choreography, scenic design and costume design; personally, I think it will only win for scenic design.
I don't think this year will have any upsets. And though he won't win, Jonathon Groff was extraordinary in Spring Awakening.
<< Also, if Coast of Utopia and Journey's End lose to anything else, that will be an upset. >>
"Utopia" losing MIGHT be upset, but I would not be totally shocked---
I look at it this way-- You have two shows that have already closed ("LDL" and "Utopia")-- Another that wont need a box office boast because most likely, Langella wins the Tony (and their box office is better than "RG's anyway)-
"RG" is going to need to win to keep the showing open for any considerable time. Would not be shocked with a win.

WHY has no-one mentioned the fact that Kristin Chenoweth has failed to recieve a nomination!? I can't belive that her brilliant perfomance has been ignore becuase the show closed.
