Posted: 9/17/09 at 4:07pmI'm so confused! Is this the same show Michael Feinstein is doing?

Posted: 9/17/09 at 5:18pmI wondered that, too. Since there was an article on Playbill about that a few months back.

I'm sure it will be more of the same, but at least it's an enjoyable same.

Ohhh, got it.
On Playbill.com:
"Although Michael Feinstein is also scheduled to return to Broadway in the similarly titled All About Me, a spokesperson for the Dame told Playbill.com, "[I can] assure you that it is not the same show." "

The latest London show at The Royal Albert Hall has had some terrible reviews. A number of dates on the tour were pulled due to bad advances and audience members were walking out of the London date well before the show ended.
He needs to bring Edna back to the UK in a full show like the last Broadway outings that have had brilliant notices and amazing business.
He is losing his UK audiences by not appearing live for many years now.
Review from The Daily Telegraph
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/theatre/comedy/6201337/Last-Night-of-the-Poms-at-the-Royal-Albert-Hall-review.html
The show is a revival of a 1981 production, 'Last Bight Of The Poms' and is performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and full choir.

Good Lord.
I hope she comes up with some new material. It's always the same jokes, they just change the title of the show.

I saw 'the first last tour' in Boston this Spring...was awesome! Caught her a few times in NYC and in New Haven too. Sure, its a little bit of the same, but its not tiresome since the interaction with the audience is always unique.
Interesting that Jerry Zaks is directing.

Saw Dame Edna in San Fran 6 times when the show was there in Nov/Dec of last year. Then 3 times at The Ahmanson Theatre this summer. I think my grand total on seeing THE DAME, is at least 50. Never, ever tire of seeing her.
Interesting blurb about London and people walking out. In all my years of seeing THE DAME, I've never seen anyone leave the theatre. So, I kinda think tend to think that isn't entirely correct. And, that doesn't make any sense - losing audiences because he hasn't been performing there. How can they go see him, if he's not there? He has to be there, in order to be seen.
Sure, some of the material is the same - what comic's, isn't. To be that quick, that fast thinking on your feet - depending on the audience and who she talks to, is amazing.
"They" don't change the title of the show - HE does. Barry Humphries has been producing all of his shows from day 1. He's a very smart businessman.
It's not tiresome at all....not at all! He writes all of the material......all of the songs, sings the songs and has the audience in the palm of his hand for the entire show.

Posted: 9/19/09 at 8:59amI've been to many of Barry Humphries Edna Everage shows here in Australia over the years. My favourite show title of Edna's is AT LEAST YOU CAN SAY YOU'VE SEEN IT. I remember signs in the theatre foyer (do they do that in the U.S. shows?), one of which was 'For braille programmes see the usher'. At another show the usher showed you to your seat and then sprayed it with disenfectant before you sat down.

Posted: 9/19/09 at 1:24pmI've seen Dame Edna twice in Boston and once in New York. The first Boston show was the best. I love her mocking satire, especially when it seems to be going over the heads of her targets and registering mostly with us "friends of Kenny." But sometimes she seems to be dumbing down the humor for fear that we rubes in the provinces won't get it. She should have more faith in us.

When she was last here in LA, there were two ticket prices...
EXPENSIVE or cheap.
So the whole section about the 'poor people in the balcony, like little fruit bats" was pretty much a slap in the face to everyone who didn't want to pay more than $100.00 to see her tell the same jokes.
If that's comedy, I'm not laughing.

TD, when Dame Edna was at The Ahmanson, there were many prices and different discounts for the Orchestra section, as well as other parts of the theatre. I had HOT TKTS - $20, and we were in the 4th row of the Orchestra. Saw her twice, for $20 each in the front Orch. I saw a flyer that had Orchestra seats for $49, too. The top ticket price was $90, not $100.
The Ahmanson always has many discounts for all of their shows. They have been doing that for many years. Dame Edna was not excluded from that policy.
Seeing a favorite show/performer is very comforting. Who hasn't seen "I Love Lucy" and "The Golden Girls" over and over again, and still laugh out loud - like seeing it for the first time? Nothing wrong with that.
The jokes about the the people in the balcony is very funny. Everyone near me - including the upper Mezz & Balcony was laughing. Not sure why you are taking it to a different level - making it something that it's not.

I know about the different discounts and what-not. I'm talking about the ACTUAL ticket prices.
The joke's not funny to people who only had two choices.
I'm glad you enjoy watching re-hashed material. I just think it doesn't belong in a Broadway style theatre.

I don't find the material to be re-hashed at all in all these years of seeing Dame Edna. I choose to look at the show, or any show for that matter, in a positive aspect and enjoy myself, and not be negative.
That would be like saying, "I don't listen to the radio, because they will play that song again, and I've all ready heard it once."
Any Dame Edna show has audience participation in it. If you're uncomfortable with that aspect of the show, then don't go.
