I like Tony a lot. But I was hoping for Jeremy Jordan, I would love to see him in the role.

Tony would not be my first choice. Good dancer, decent voice, but that role requires a real actor too. And, forgive me, but that's the one thing he really isn't. He doesn't convey warmth. To me. Very basic musical theater acting going on there. No depth.
Is this Harvey's way of apologizing to Tony for courting Derek Hough and not casting him in Singin' in the Rain?

Nothing to forgive but couldn't agree with you less about his acting.
True (and at the risk of parsing words), in an important sense Yazbeck doesn't "convey" warmth. Rather, he simply does nothing to block it from radiating.
That he doesn't "convey" warmth, or for that matter any other quality, is why he is very much "a real actor."

I doubt Jeremy will return to be a replacement in Finding Neverland. And he has moved to other projects!

I was thinking the same thing. How could Weinstein know who Yazbeck is and not cast him in Singin' in the Rain? I am happy Tony is going to be in Finding Neverland though. Hoping Yazbeck replaces Hough in SITR when Hough's run in the show is done (if it even lasts that long)

Why would he have not heard of Tony Yasbeck? He doesn't live in a vacuum and Tony Y was nominated for a Tony as best actor the year that I am sure Harvey hoped Matthew would be...
I am sure he and his people do research...they may have even seen him perform at the Tony awards.
I am not a big fan of Harvey Weinstein (except for the fact that he finds investing in Broadway important) but I don't think he needs to apologize to Tony Y or anyone else for NOT casting him in a future show. He can cast whoever he wants....
There's no question Harvey witnessed tony perform on the tony awards, because he was in attendance.
He doesn't convey warmth.
Yes, he does.
That video should be enough of an audition for Singin' in the Rain.

I have a feeling Derek hough would just be in singin in the rain for the spring and summer so he can return to dwts by fall and tony would replace him.

Singin' in the Rain doesn't open till the Fall, or at least that's when they are planning to.

This show will be closed by labor day. Without matthew Morrison it's not going to last very long..

Saw Tony in the audience last night watching the show already sporting the beard. It was looking great on him.
And Terrence Mann was fantastic in his role and having a lot of fun. Morrison's wife, who was also in the audience, instagrammed that it was Mann's last show so I'm guessing an understudy will be on until Grammar returns so sadly I can't suggest to see him while you still can.
Anyone see both Mann and Warlowe in the role? I wonder how they compare. Grammar was just abysmal.

I saw all three. I thought Kelsey Grammar was Kelsey Grammar...effective (but I could done without the Cheers inside jokes). And while he was credible, it wasn't anything i hadn't seen from Kelsey before. My experience is the audience loved him because of who he was -- not because of what he did specifically for the show.
I love Anthony Warlow and he was really great but probably a little more dignified and less over the top than the others. I think he has a particular elegance about him no matter what he does and it was evident here as well. He's just a classy performer.
I thought Terrance Mann was just fabulous and the more he did the role, the looser and more fun he had. I saw him this past week as well and you could tell he was having a great time with it. He had a great rapport with the audience as well and he was able to really connect with them. Audience loved him = because he earned it.

I would do a weekender in NY from LA to see Tony Yazbeck in Singin' in the Rain. Fly in, see the show, and fly out.
Derek Hough? Not so much. Extremely talented dancer, but still not interested enough in him to see him in this role. Especially with Yazbeck floating around out there.
IMO if anyone is replacing anyone it should be casting Yazbeck and having Hough take over for him.
Yazbeck is the man, and he has that old time, classic manner about him that fit OTT. And he would be perfect in SITR.

I think it would be a bit obvious to cast Yazbeck in another Gene Kelly role.. a bit uninspired. Hough would make it very different and interesting.

Uninspired, obvious, whatever. I'd still travel to see him in the role. Hough, not so much.
For me it's about the role, not the actors who have played it before. Yazbeck has the classic look and talent not only seen in classic Broadway musicals, but those we saw in Hollywood musicals from the golden age as well.
As for FN, I'll bet he's great in that too. Huge talent.
Can someone answer my 'dancing' question? Been going to musicals since Bye Bye Birdie[my first] and never really thought about this till I saw a clip of Matthew Morrison doing a number with the boys[that REALLY didn't come out right]. Anyway, not knowing the show[apart from the wonderful movie] or the music, the moment Mr Morrison started dancing he became this completely different all singing all dancing 'character', and then morphed back to being a simple Scottish family man..
Don't know why this has bothered me so much-was it because I didn't like Mr Morrison/his style of dancing or just someone who shouldn't dance like Fred Astaire-- Mr Yazback wears that crown.
Thinking too much?? Just accept the fantasy?
Please explain ,as one of our female politicians always used to say[say that with an Australian accent-think you might smile].
Thanks
SL.....x
