Such an awesome show. Great book, great music, great performances.
VIVA LA BAT BOY
I think the cast in the OBC recording is far more entertaining than the London. I don't like the OBC orchestrations as much, though. It's like they said 'hey, how would this sound if we orchestrated it like crappy old musical theater.' In that regard, I think the London recording is more reflective of what the show really sounds like but the OBC performers did a far beter job of getting over their characters on the recording.
I also think the song that replaces 'Inside Your Heart' is much more interesting and works much better. 'Inside Your Heart' essentially runs in place and the only dramatic decision in the moment -- whether she will or won't offer herself to Bat Boy -- is made in the very first verse. The rest of the song is pretty redundant. By moving that decision to the end of the song, and starting the song earlier in the scene 'Mine All Mine' is a much better moment in the show that does a better job of moving the story and characters forward.

i was just going to pose this question. what is going on with the movie??? The least they could do is put out a crappy dvd.
While I enjoy a lot the OBC, I prefer the London Cast recording. I also prefer "Mine all Mine" to "Inside Your Heart". The only change that I hated in the London recording was "Whatcha Wanna Do?" for "Hey Freak".

Hey Freak is terrible.
I have both on my computer. I was listening to the OOBC and suddenly it started getting boring. I said, "Have I been listening to this so much that I can't listen anymore!?"
I checked out and saw that I was listening to the OLC.
Apparently the OLC and OOBC saved into the same folder...so the first four tracks of the OOBC were saved (because the London has a track before Hold Me, Bat Boy. But then, because the OLC combines Ugly Boy and Watcha Wanna Do....the rest of the OBC got replaced (until the last 4 tracks or so).
Loved the OLC and production - managed to see it four times, including the pretty raucous last night. I enjoy the CD, but I think that there are several production issues, including some dodgy mixing of the chorus that bring it down and as BSoBW2 said, it's boring (not something that could be said of the show in the theatre!) The accents were supposed to be 'eccentric' as an added joke, which probably doesn't come off to well on CD. For what it's worth, I much prefer Mine all mine to Inside your heart, though agree Hey Freak is pretty awful.
I didn't know the movie was off, just assumed to was stuck in pre-produciton hell. Is there any definate news on this anywhere?

I'm sad about that. It would make a great movie. Cult movie.
Let's all sing a song full of comfort and joy!

Bat Boy is by far the best show I have ever done. I played Bat Boy in Erie, PA last January. I was just asked by the theatre we did it at last year to reprise my role and direct the show this september and october, so if any of you are in the Northeast PA area, come check it out! I am working on getting in contact with the writers and their lawers to be try and be the first theatre in the US to use the London score. As much as I like Whatcha Wanna Do? better than Hey, Freak...I absolutely love Mine, All Mine. It definatley shows how Shelley has grown through the show and it is a beautiful song. If you would like to see some pictures from our show last year, I have a few on my website http://www.freewebs.com/ryan_dawley/
How sad. I was really looking forward to the movie.
Movie has been planned forever and gets to the next level, then nothing for months. Next level, then nothing for months. Next level, then nothing for a year.
Going VERY slow but out of all the upcoming movie musicals, Bat Boy is the slow one that is actually getting somewhere.

A lesson to you all: Don't start looking forward to a movie until filming begins. No matter how much pre-production art there is, no matter how excited the director is, no matter who's been cast. It's not likely to ever happen.
