[title of show]
a revival of an original musical about a original musical
Wouldn't surprise me...
I really hope Vanities isn't cancelled. I would be really sad if it did. I've been looking forward to it. Though I do agree, that it probably would have flopped almost immiediately.
However, the idea of it transfering to Off-Broadway is a great one. They should consider it because I think it would do so much better there. In fact, I'm really surprised that isn't where they took it in the first place. Anyone know why?
No, it wouldnt' be a revival....just a re-production! (But still technically...nope...same season=same show)
This would be Lauren Kennedy's fourth canceled show.
THE RHYTHM CLUB (which she did at The Signature Theater back in 2000) had commercial producers signed on and runs scheduled for Chicago and Broadway.
Unfortunately, the plans fell through because of September 11th and it never made it out of Arlington.
And I guess we might as well mention the Frank Wildhorn she did in what 2003? maybe 2005 in Lenape, New Jersey. I think she did it with Alan Campbell, if I'm not mistake (her husband); Wiating for the Moon, if I'm not mistaken. She did a few workshops too, but now that Mr. Wildhorn has a new leading lady, who is indeed blonde, I'm sure any future production would star her rather than Lauren, if any other productions are planned of it?
Hopefully this isn't though!

Aw, I hope this show makes it. I love the music on YouTube.
While it would be a filler in many categories, Vanities doesn't stand a chance of winning anything should it end up on Broadway.
I'm sorry to say this.. but the show was a REAL snoozer!
Even in a solid economic environment I couldn't see any way this show would fly.
Now I'll be very pleased if the show comes to Broadway and triumphs artistically and financially.
But the version I saw a few months ago held no promise of being an artistic flop a producer could be proud of losing money on - let alone an audience pleaser that might turn a buck.
Cut your losses, I say.
Yeah, I saw it in Pasadena and it didn't feel like a Broadway show. Off-Broadway, yes, where the original play was a hit. But it couldn't make enough money Off Broadway so it's a Catch 22. Alas.
If it is cancelled, which would be the most lucrative move the producers could possibly make at this point, I would not be surprised.
This season is chock-full of recognizable "name" shows and VANITIES would have flopped and closed much like AMERICAN BUFFALO. At this point, in the economic situation we're in, it is pretty foolish to bring this show to Broadway. If it was an unrecognizable "name" and was a masterpiece, I'd say give it a show but from what I hear, the show is not very good at all.

official delay.
official delay = sugar coated cancellation.
I agree. I think it's very ambitious for them to essentially say that the production will open "later in the season".

You said that RIGHT! Another thing- A STORY OF MY LIFE~that's going to be another A CATERED AFFAIR this season.. not very catchy music, people get bored, reviews- so-so! (that I am predicting!)
We'll see!

I don't think it is fair to dump on "A Catered Affair". I thought it was far and away the best musical of last season. Just because a musical doesn't have tunes you leave the theater whistling, doesn't mean it can't be a moving experience which, for me, "A Catered Affair" was. I think it is a show that while not embraced upon its debut, will be regarded highly in the future.
Let's not forget that the creative team is still making adjustments to the script and score. It's new incarnation will be stronger from what was seen in Pasadena.
Now officially "postponed" until later in the season....no date given. See link above in the news items.

Oh well, I was looking forward to it. I love me a new musical. Plus any reason to get my ass back in the Lyceum I'm down. It's SUCH a beautiful theater.
I LOOKED to see if anyone had posted it....I'm sure I read more than just the last post! I HATE my system at school...it does not always send things right away!
Sorry.
