Granted it's only Telluride responses so far, but it's already one of the best reviewed movies of the year - 94 on Metacritic!
Definitely one of my most anticipated.
These early reviews are quite rapturous, especially for Buckley’s performance. She is back in the Oscar race, it seems.

I absolutely loved the book, and thought that Buckley was the absolutely perfect choice to play this role. based on the four reviews I have read, she is going to be hard to beat. This is the movie i am mist anxious to see the rest of the year.

Hamnet Review: The Most Devastating Movie I’ve Seen in Years

Having read the book, I knew this role would be a great fit for Buckley. I honestly figured it would be one of those awards-bait films that gets a nod or two, especially for the star, but is largely unremarkable. However, it seems as though Zhao has crafted something truly special here.
I can’t wait.
This feels like Buckley’s moment to steamroll to a Best Actress win. Looking forward to seeing it.
I can’t imagine any Actress in films this year overtaking Buckley in Lead Actress. So many great films coming out this year but with reviews like this she has it in the bag. Especially with the polarized reception to Luca guadagnino‘s After the Hunt.
As of right now Jessie Buckley and Jacob Elordi (for Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein) have to be the front runners, no?

Eldori ain't a frontrunner. He's consistently been held up as a high point of GDT's Frankenstein, but the movie's mixed reception will hold him back. There's also the issue of category confusion.
If he's placed in supporting? Stellan Skarsgard is the frontrunner, followed by Jeremy Strong, Adam Sandler, Delroy Lindo, Andrew Garfield, etc..
If he's lead? Jeremy Alan White, George Clooney, and even Dwayne Johnson would arguably be ahead of him.
