My dad and I are in town and have time for one more show. Which would y'all recommend - Waitress or Miss Saigon?

Waitress. But then again I'm not a fan of Miss Saigon.

I have a deep distaste for Miss Saigon, so I'd say go for Waitress.

May I ask where the distaste comes from? Most people are gushing about how glorious, emotional the show is with sensational music and love the fact that it focuses on people, with both good and bad sides. It really challenges the audience to look at situations from more than 1 side, which is very powerful and humanic. That's obviously a part of why audiences are so moved.

Please don't answer. Dave19 has a pretty good idea what your answer is going to be and he wants to - once again, for the I don't know how many times - lecture on why you are wrong and why he is right. Please do some research into prior postings of his on the subject and don't answer unless you want to relive the discussion. You can never be right in Dave19 world and it will go on and on.
Thank you.

I've got tickets to see Waitress as part of my NYC trip in November (it'll be my last of five shows that trip). I also have been listening to the cast recording and have fallen in love with it. So even though I haven't seen it yet, I'd vote for Waitress.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for something fun and uplifting, go with Waitress. If you're looking for a big splashy epic show, go with Miss Saigon. I love both shows for different reasons.

I personally recommend Miss Saigon, but the show is pretty heavy and not for everyone, so it depends what you like.

Both productions are great and VERY different in tone, but I would recommend Miss Saigon.

It's another one of the " I personally love both of them " answers. Miss Saigon is a big bold musical and Waitress is a smaller quieter one. It's hard to advise without knowing you personally. Do you want to see a musical about people struggling during the Viet Nam war (with some controversy if this is racist or not)... or people living in small town USA...all trying to figure out their lives. Both shows have their dedicated fans vs their non fans...

I haven't seen this revival of Saigon, but I liked Waitress better.

You are right. I have a pretty good idea. And the answer is never about the actual show.

While I didn't mind Waitress overall, I still found it to be pretty problematic.
I highly recommend Miss Saigon.

I had no plans to see Waitress the 5 weeks I was in NYC because I was iffy on it and I have season tickets to orlando's Dr. Phillips and it's one of the shows I will see. However a friend and her daughter came into the city and between the 3 of us that was the only 1 we all had not seen. It was enjoyable-I definitely enjoyed it. However I LOVED Miss Saigon.
In fact I saw it at the beginning of my stay and did not realize the day I was seeing it Eva Noblezada was not performing. I had bought the tickets on TDF and wasn't sure it was worth seeing if I could switch. I loved the show so much I went again when Eva was performing. I had first seen Miss Saigon when it came to Broadway which was a very long time ago. I am so glad I saw it again 2x. Waitress is touring-I'd say go with Miss Saigon.

So what did you end up choosing and how did you like it?
I must admit, I would be way too embarrassed to go with my dad to see Miss Saigon. I saw it with my mother and sister and my mom didn't really enjoy the prostitutes, but we all found Eva Noblezada's performance to be quite powerful. The Chris hatred kind of overshadowed everything though. Seriously, eff that guy.
Would have absolutely said Waitress had it been Jessie or Sara as Jenna, but can't say how well Betsy is doing.

Having seen both...Miss Saigon, definitely.
Better story, great show, excellent cast and music.
Waitress is good...but cheesy and honestly I can't stand the voice of who is playing Jenna now.
