D-list? I think not, dear. Last I heard, her quote for a night of stand-up was 50-75k a set. She sells out 3,000 seat venues. hardly, D-list.
She might just want to cut her teeth in theatre close to home. She's gonna rock this.
Wouldn't be surprised if my family goes to see this for Wanda. It is right near my hometown in Delaware County.
She'd be a great Hannigan. The thought of her doing the role never crossed my mind before.
How does the role of Miss Hannigan work with a black performer? When she and her brother claim they are Annie's parents how is that recieved by the audience? Is a black actor also cast as Rooster?
At the start of this thread someone said Hannifan has been cast this way before. Curious to know how this worked out.
I would love to see Sykes in this.
LILLY pretends she is Annie's mother only int he TV movie does Ms Hannigan do it for some weird reason. Rooster could easily be white since in imagination Hannigan had rough childhood with a bad mother who probably slept around.
I saw the show a long time ago with Sally Struthers as Hannigan. I thought it was Hannigan who pretended to be Annie's mother. But it was long time ago and I could be remembering Kathy Bates performaces from the TV movie.

It is possible it might be in some stage versions but the original has Lilly do it. The only time I have seen Hannigan do it was in the TV movie.
"Wanda Sykes is just as much of a household name as Kathy Griffin, no?"
You do realize the 'D-List" thing is a joke right? Kathy Griffin sells out all over the country. She sold out Carnegie Hall. She has won 2 Emmys for the show as well as being a NY Times bestseller and Grammy nominated.
Wanda Sykes worked on "The New Adventures Of Old Christine", her own talk show, and had an HBO standup at the same time, as well as touring all over the country. Both ladies are very successful and hardly on The D-List.

@Almira I'm kind of obsessed with the idea of Wanda Sykes being blackmailed in to playing Miss Hanigan in Annie! Haha.
Bookie: "Wanda, you'd better make good on your bet or ypu'll be playing Hannigan in Pennsylvania."
Sykes: "Well, I guess I'm playing Hanigan."
Bookie: "Why I oughta!"
Joking aside, I have a feeling shes gonna be brilliant and wouldn't be surprised if she is now considered for the BWay company.
There's a line (well, at least in the '82 movie) where Lily says to Rooster of Miss Hannigan, "You and her have the same mother?" I always liked that line, with its subtle little jab. So Miss Hannigan's dad could have been black, I guess, whether or not Rooster's is.
Mostly I freaked out when I saw this subject line b/c I thought it was about the Broadway cast. If Beth Leavel doesn't play Miss Hannigan on Broadway then the world is just ridiculous.
^ Consider the world officially just ridiculous.
I was wondering the same thing! I saw some pics, but was wondering how her performance was.
