re: Way Overdue TONY AWARDS#1
Posted: 8/18/04 at 11:29amWhy do I get the feeling that I can predict who the author feels has an overdue Tony?
re: Way Overdue TONY AWARDS#2
Posted: 8/18/04 at 11:34amOK...I will bite the bait....Stephen Schwartz. I really do think he is overdue. I wish he and Tsori could have tied this year.

Now...I know we all love him...But Raul Esparza has been in and around the NY theatre scene for about four years. That can hardly be termed 'way' overdue.
Victor Garber, on the other hand...

Yes, she won the BEST THEATRICAL SPECIAL EVENT Tony. But it is a sin that she doesn't have an Acting Tony.
Elaine Stritch
And I would say Stephen Scwartz. But, althought I love GODSPELL and PIPPIN, I don't beleive they are Tony-worthy scores. But they are loads better than scores that have won that award recently, so.....

But Bernadette already has a Tony. I think this thread is about those poor souls left completely wanting.
I met Veanne Cox the other night. Very nice.

It would be pretty hard to beat the Susan Lucci of the Tonys: costume designer Jane Greenwood. She was nominated for one of her first shows, ''Tartuffe'' (1965), and she's been up for a Tony 14 times - and never won. She's done plays and musicals (such as ''Passion'' and the revival of ''She Loves Me''). And in most any other season, Greenwood would've been a shoo-in for her extravagant costumes in ''The Scarlet Pimpernel,'' but that was the season of ''The Lion King,'' which won, and even more shockingly, she wasn't even nominated (!). She's been up for a Tony in every decade since the '60s, and she's still designing (she's doing the upcoming ''Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'') It's time for the Tonys to give her a lifetime achievement award.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 2:34pmI saw both Wonderful Town and Never Gonna Dance. I know NGD didn't run too long and the singing was kinda bad but the dancing was AMAZING! It was nominated and I think it should have won. Wonderful Town was great as well but Jerry has done Gypsy, Hairspray and others very well and I think NGD was his best. He really should have won for that...
