If it was up to me, she would. Although Rachel is a standout, I certainly wouldn't ignore Jennifer's heartbreaking work.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I would love to see a Cats nom in Best Featured Actor. While Cats is....Cats...Tyler Hanes is delivering some excellent work as Rum Tum Tugger.
Best Musical:
NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 or DEAR EVAN HANSEN
Best Revival:
FALSETTOS
Best Lead actor:
BEN PLATT or CHRISTIAN BORLE
Best featured actor:
ANDREW RANNELLS

So any thoughts about Christian going up against himself in Lead Actor? I mean, I know Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a train wreck on the West End, but word is that it's been completely reworked and the man is magic in a bottle. And if he isn't nominated for Falsettos, we will have witnessed the definition of miscarriage of justice.

I actually thought he was the weakest in the Falsettos cast.
I think if Christian Borle fares better in Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, that might be his one Tony nomination for the season.
My predictions-
Best Musical:
Dear Evan Hansen
The Great Comet of 1812
Groundhog Day
War Paint
Come from Away
Best Revival:
Falsettos
Sunday in the Park with George
Hello Dolly!
Best Lead Actor:
Ben Platt
Josh Groban
Jake Gyllenhaal
Christian Borle (Falsettos)
Andy Karl
Best Lead Actress:
Bette Midler
Patti Lupone
Christine Ebersole
Annaleigh Ashford
Denee Benton
Best Supporting Actor:
Andrew Rannels
Lucas Steele
Brandon Uranowitz
Best Supporting Actress:
Rachel Bay Jones
Stephanie J. Block
Amber Grey
Brittain Ashford
Best Score:
Dear Evan Hansen
The Great Comet of 1812
War Paint
Groundhog Day
Come from Away
Just what I predict the noms will look like. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
The potential Best Play nominations are insane. I hope there ends up being 5 nominations this year.
Just because this thread pushed me to make my personal predictions for all the categories (totally for fun and totally predicting that a lot of this won't end up being the case...) :
Best Actor in a Musical
Christian Borle (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)
Jon Jon Briones (Miss Saigon)
Jake Gyllenhaal (Sunday in the Park with George)
Andy Karl (Groundhog Day)
Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen)
Best Actress in a Musical
Christy Altomare (Anastasia)
Annaleigh Ashford (Sunday in the Park with George)
Christine Ebersole (War Paint)
Bette Midler (Hello, Dolly!)
Phillipa Soo (Amélie)
Potential Switchers (this is easily the hardest category, and my predictions change by the day): Denée Benton (The Great Comet), Patti LuPone (War Paint), Eva Noblezada (Miss Saigon)
Best Featured Actor in a Musical
Josh Groban (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812)
David Hyde Pierce (Hello, Dolly!)
Lucas Steele (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812)
Brandon Uranowitz (Falsettos)
Fifth slot TBD: possibly somebody from Anastasia?
Best Featured Actress in a Musical
Stephanie J. Block (Falsettos)
Jenn Collela (Come from Away)
Amber Gray (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812)
Rachel Bay Jones (Dear Evan Hansen)
Caroline O'Connor (Anastasia)
Potential Switchers: Mary Beth Peil (Anastasia), Jennifer Laura Thompson (Dear Evan Hansen) and/or Brittain Ashford (The Great Comet)

If I were a betting person, I'd put my money on Derek Klena snagging a Leading Actor nomination.

Unlikely he'd be considered featured since he is above the title, on the poster, and the draw... plus, you aren't putting Denee in featured.

Really?
My gut feeling is that people are wildly overestimating Anastasia's chances.

I wouldn't have said it if I didn't mean it. You can disagree, that's cool. But I thought he was really phenomenal in the show, and Christy as well.
Here's my early take on this year's Tony Awards...

How many of these performances have you actually seen, Concierge?

I just assume nobody has actually seen anything, adamgreer.
I doubt David Hyde Pierce will be placed in the Featured category. He's not above the title but I believe they'll petition him...they have Gavin Creel to contend in the Featured category.

Fascinating list! As a fan of COMET, though, I have to ask: Why do you assume that Josh Groban is the only reason this show is grossing over $1 million each week?
I don't know, but I'd be surprised if it was still doing just as good without a big star.

Was also curious why box office was used as a proof point for quality, when they often have nothing to do with one another, heh.

I guess the reason I ask is, there's really no proof either way that it's success is more because of Groban or because of the amazing reviews and word-of-mouth of the production itself. I think Groban definitely played a part in bringing people in, but now word-of-mouth is sustaining the show: when I saw Stangland go on recently, the house was still packed (and that's not easy to do in the Imperial!). Going by the Groban logic, we have no idea how well Dear Evan Hansen would be doing without Ben Platt- it seems to me that a lot of the press around that show focuses on him, similar to Cynthia Erivo/Color Purple.

Pretty far leap there. Many people I talked to at Comet were Groban fans who had no idea what the show was even about... he is a draw and he's in a show. Whereas no one is buying tickets to see Ben Platt based on name recognition alone.
