I hear the Mirvishes are launching a new interactive site for its production of We Will Rock You www.wewillrockyou.ca. It suppose to be something like Pirate Queen, but more flashy.
I guess we will have to wait and fine out.

It was necessary to put the show's name and the abbreviation in the title?

It's kind of a shame that people are looking forward to the ridiculous WWRY and yet they won't go see a beautiful piece of theatre, for a fraction of the price, in Elegies: A Song Cycle.
Hey, thats the entertainment industry! Sometimes people don't want to go and see something small, emotional and thought provoking. Some people just want a good, fun, flashy night out. We Will Rock You is perfect for this. Its not pretending to be anything that it isn't. It doesn't claim to be high art, but every time i see that show 1500 people rose to their feet and cheered and waved their arms at the end. They smiled, they had a good time. They escaped the problems of the world for a while. What is wrong with that?

Nothing is wrong with wanting an entertaining night out and, trust me, Elegies will give you that a million times more than WWRY EVER will! It may be 200 instead of 1500 people leaping to their feet in a standing ovation but it's a true ovation celebrating talent of EVERYone involved in the production. WWRY is ridiculous; entertaining to an extent but ridiculous, nonetheless. They won't have the talent involved that Elegies does, in any aspect of the show. My point was that people will pay four or five times more for a ticket to something like WWRY when they could see the best show to have been in the city in a long time. It shouldn't surprise me that the general public is not discerning enough to realize that, but it always does.
Its got nothing to do with discerning, the fact is, thats not how this industry works. If 1500 people wanted to see Elegies, it wouldn't be in a 200 seat theater. Not that there isn't a place for something like Elegies, but its something that doesn't interest the general public. Thats the way business works. Wake up.
I want to say that the world of theatre stopped being an art form and started being a business a long time ago. Elgies is art whereas something like WWRY is just flat out fun. More people would want to see something thats entertaining such as WWRY rather then something thats art like Elgies. The thing is that the majority of the theatre goers are people who don't know a lot about it and are usually tourists looking for something to do on there vactations. That's why something like WWRY is a fun fluf show. It's a perfect show for tourists and that is the average joe who goes to the theatre these days.

Yes, they're launching a Globalsoft site.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the show, Globalsoft is the corporation that runs the planet or something...
I've seen a preview of the site and it looks great.

You don't need to lecture me on the theatre business. My family has been in it for decades and I'm studying theatre. My point was that it is disappointing that people flock to see shows like WWRY and yet they aren't discerning enough to appreciate wonderful theatre like Elegies. I'm not saying that WWRY isn't entertaining, it is! And it definitely has a place in the world of theatre. No one will convince me that it isn't sad that people are more excited about IT rather than a great production of a show like Elegies.
khasogghi, trust me, I'm awake. Elegies is in a 200 seat theatre because the theatre company that is producing it, does 'small' productions. It has nothing at all to do with demand from the public. Actually, there's only one theatre in Toronto that would even seat 1500 so that argument is really moot.
Winston, we're talking about Toronto. The majority of people who see theatre in Toronto are not tourists.
Your right its sad that people would prefer to see a show like WWRY rather then a more artistic show like Elgies. I live in NYC and take a look at broadway for example. The Drowsy Chaprone is the first original musical on broadway in years. Hardcore broadway fans flocked to it because for once there was a musical that wasn't based on a movie. That show is a great example of art. But, more people would rather se a show based on a movie because they have seen the movie. It is also sad that a movie based musical is the kind of show that people want to see more then something artistic. But, that's the way it is. Theatre is a business and if more people are going to see a movie based musical then that's what they are going to write because more people would want to see them and thus they would make more money.

The site has been lauched at www.wewillrockyou.ca or www.planetmall.ca. Great site!
"It was necessary to put the show's name and the abbreviation in the title?"
Have you tried to register a website name recently? My partners and I spent DAYS trying to find a workable combination of words for a site we are building. EVERY COMBINATION IN THE WORLD has been taken. And most made up words too. There are people (scumbags as far as I am concerned) who spend every minute of every hour of every day registering every possible combination of words and letters and then sitting on them waiting for people who NEED a good name to come along and be forced to fork over huge amounts for a name the public can remember. And don't tell me that's business. It's disgusting highway robbery. It's scumbaggery. Nobody needs 25,000 names!
The Mirvishes were amazingly lucky to get www.wewillrockyou.ca before some scumbag registered it knowing the show was coming to Toronto. Or for all we know, David had to reach for his wallet as he reached for his ankles from these scumbags!
Did I mention they are scumbags?

Killer Queen is great! Two days to first preview!
They will change the cast on August 5th I believe. Suzie is leaving the show and will replaced by Valerie Stainos. I heard they will bring Jordan Cable, Jesse Weafer( Iq in Hairspray) and add the swings to the cast.

I saw it on Canada Day and Suzie and Erica were out that day, but the understudies were good, too. It's a good show, definitely a ton of fun, especially if you're a Queen fan and like a good laugh.
Good riddance. Suzie was the one weak link in the incredible cast.
Is this coming to NY? I saw it in Toronto when I was visiting, and it was terrible. It needs major rewrites if it's Broadway-bound...
I want it to come to NY so badly. I'm dying to see it.
Suzie is leaving the show because she will be going on tour. The rest of the cast such as Bryan Hindle , Jason Sermonia and Jesse Rob will be in Dirty Dancing.
I saw a local production of it last weekend. Ha. I got a good laugh out of it. The audience was composed of mostly VERY enthusiatic hardcore Queen fans who had never been to a musical before. At one point during We Are The Champions, the man sitting next to me whipped out a glowstick and starting singing along loudly, and hit me in the head while swaying his arms.
The book really does need to be rewritten. I thought a lot of it was just....bad. The songs were fun and the audience had a good time with it, but the book was a little bit unbearable in parts.
It WAS entertaining though, I'll admit that. Not exactly a great show, but at least I left the theater amused by it.
Is this the same show that played Vegas?
Yeah, it ran in Las Vegas for awhile.
I completely agree, ByTheSea. Queen's catalog includes some fantastic pop songs, and the singing of the male lead in the Toronto production was outstanding, but the book and the plot... not so much. I couldn't believe the dialogue ("Scary Bush?"). Yikes.
Honestly, the encore was the only thing I found redeeming about the show. That performance of Bohemian Rhapsody kicked ass.
