I wonder if they'll ever do that.......hmmm It might be a good idea but people might prefer the original movie.
No, people might prefer a good movie!
What is with this rumor?
I heard a GROUP of people saying the same thing today. Teenagers at Target, no less. In Upstate NY. What is the deal?
Was there some BS newstory on MTV or something?
Some twit or tw*t twitterred?
P
I haven't seen this production yet, but I know people who are happy with the three leads and others who do not care for them so much.
My aunt saw the production and did not like some of the changes. She preferred the original movie. I know others who enjoy the original movie as well. A lot of people do prefer the original movie, so I do not know if an updated movie of the show would be necessary, especially with the current cast members, who I have heard mixed things about.
If they were to make an updated movie, wouldn't they want to cast celebrities in the lead roles? I know the Broadway revival sells without major names, obviously, but it is different for the movie. People are also faithful to the original, so they'd really need to do more to really sell the idea of an updated movie.
I think the only way it will happen is if Arthur just won't let go and tries to start something. No way would anyone else take them :P..
Maybe he'll insist a PBS filming since GYPSY didn't go down well.
Oh, lord....I hope not. I don't know anyone that would want this. THIS is not a production we need to preserve.
So, we have an early contender for worst idea of the day.
I head there going to do it with entirely new music.
Thank God...I've been waiting decades for someone to ditch that crappy score and write something decent.

I will beg whatever theater gods there are to make this not happen.

You said it all right. Why on God's green earth would anybody even think of re-making West Side Story?
Ugh..
^ is all I have to say.
I just don't like the girl playing Maria at all. She just doesnt have the voice.. remember her final note at the Tony Awards... what the heck
Burton is doing it! Johnny Depp as Tony, Helena Bonham Carter as Maria, it is gonna be great!
They need to get rid of Matt Cavenaugh for this to happen. I don't understand how someone can be so boring.
Edit-I mean his portrayal of Tony is boring, if I didn't make it clear.
"It might be a good idea but people might prefer the original movie."
Uh, duh. Y'think?
This is a very bad idea and I doubt it will happen but, then again, Hollywood does dumb things all the time. I could only see this happening two ways: a PBS recording of the actual stage show a la "Passion" and "Into the Woods" or....some clueless filmmaker decides to do an updated remake to "modernize" it and make it relevant for today's audiences (with Bernardo being portrayed by a Transformer).
Soliantu have you actually seen the Revival or basing your entire opinion on about 10 seconds of singing. I have a feeling its the latter. Josefina was about the only reason to see this horrible production of the show (other than Karen). Her vocals are top notch. She was sick and still performed and made one tiny mistake. In the show, she was perfection in a rather bland production.

It was just one note. She has a gorgeous soprano.

I think that a remake might be able to fix the extreme cheesiness of the original movie. I can't really see any of the Broadway cast members in the movie. Remember what not casting celebrities did to Rent? compare that to Chicago and Hairspray with all their celebrities. Unfortunately, that means they would probably cast a Disney star as Tony. Although that would be very bad, you still can't stop the entire theater community from watching a remake of a classic musical grossing over $1 million a week.
Oops.
I heard this but im not sure if it's a rumor or not. If they due do this then they should filmed the show on broadway like they did with rent.
why is it that alot of people are dissing matt and josefina and the whole cast except karen of course? The show doesnt look bad. I know they modernized it and all but come on it still looks great!
looks aren't everything. I'd have no problem with certain people from this production. Matt, I would.
Not a fan of the show, but I would see it because Karen Olivo is amazing.
