West Side Story wins Grammy!

Posted: 1/31/10 at 4:56pmI am shocked. This really should have gone to Hair. Hell, I thought 9 to 5 had a better CD than WSS.

Congratulations West Side Story,
Although, in my opinion, Hair really deserved that Grammy & am surprised they did not get it. Oh well, congrats to WSS. .

Really WSS? It definitely should have gone to HAIR.
Congrats anyway....

Posted: 1/31/10 at 5:17pmDamn. That was my last choice... should have gone to an original like Shrek or 9 to 5. Oh well i don't really care that much

Posted: 1/31/10 at 5:23pmUgh! What a dull recording! All I can say is the Grammys better not reward Taylor Swift over Lady GaGa!

I TOLD you so!
I LOVE this recording and am so happy for them! Thank goodness they didn't award the mediocrity of the been-there-done-that HAIR or the aural nightmare of the N2N cast album (though the score and performances are fine).

Posted: 1/31/10 at 5:31pmUgh I'm so disappointed...definitely should've gone to Hair. Or even 9 to 5, I thought that recording was really well-done.

Posted: 1/31/10 at 5:49pmYay! Honestly, this is the only of the nominated recordings I have, so I probably shouldn't judge, but I love this recording. Of all the recordings released this season, this is my second favorite only to Next to Normal, which was robbed of a nomination.

Posted: 1/31/10 at 5:49pmI actually think the CD of N2N is awful to listen to, and Hair is a great and fun CD, but if I have to pick one, would be WSS for sure.

Posted: 1/31/10 at 6:57pmEw. WSS really didn't deserve this. But, what can you do?!?
#17West Side Story wins Grammy!
Posted: 1/31/10 at 8:12pmWSS was the best of the recordings nominated as far as I'm concerned. Shrek's score is lacking, 9 to 5 is meh, Hair feels like it's being pulled through molasses and I never really liked Ain't Misbehavin' all that much anyway.

Disagree with the win.

WSS is a known quantity .
I thought N2N or Shrek should have gotten it.

It should have REALLY gone to HAIR. Like whoa.
Or for an edgy choice, NEXT TO NORMAL.
But WEST SIDE STORY? Really? Who is on the voting committee???

P and muscle, in a non-catty way, I am just wondering what's wrong with Next to Normal's recording?
I don't have the whole album, nor do I have any of the others nominated, but no matter how much you dis-like this revival isn't the recording clear and have great orchestrations? What is the criteria for this award?
