I think Mulan has ALOT of potential if its made a little darker. I'm not sure how serious a small dragon and a cricket can be taken. I get that the dragon is major part of the movie but I'm sure they can think of something.
Mulan's already got a good "score", just beef it up and I say its a hit.
I think if they're going to keep the dragon and cricket, they should utilize traditional East Asian theatrical devices for them, much like Rafiki was retconned into a tribal shaman more than a funny babboon for the Lion King.
Making Mushu function as the Stage Manager figure inherent in traditional Asian drama could make him a more palatable figure perhaps.
Very good point. Mulan in my opinion is the most underated Disney movie to date. "Girl Superhero" I don't think was recieved well. With that said I could see "Reflection" bringing down the house on a nightly basis.
Absolutely HUNCHBACK. The film score is fantastic as is the story, and it is darker than the typical disney movie which is always nice for a change. That's a Stephenn Scwartz score, right?
That being said.... John Cullum as Frollo (or George Hearn) Drew Sarich as Quasi Modo Laura Benanti as Esmerelda Christopher Fitzgerald or Roger Bart as the jester guy
ADDITION: The sets and costumes would be fantastic, I'm visualizing something along the lines of BATB's production values. And a South Pacific-sized orchestra. I think this show would appeal to more than just kids.

I think Hercules would be a great choice, it has always been my favorite Disney film> I just wish that they would be more daring with their musicals and not just stay with the same shows for 10 years at a time...at least try to work on new ones and open them elsewhere even if the current crop is doing well. And whoever said zero to hero screams act I closing, I COMPLETELY agree!
