Bedknobs and Broomsticks II with Angela Lansbury as Eglantine Price 40 years later... um... she could be training her granddaughter how to fly the bed and they time travel and revisit all of Angela's old movie, TV and theatre characters... leading to a BOMBASTIC cakewalk finale written by Jerry Herman that includes a staircase, spoons, forks, and delicious Carol Channing cameo.
"A friend of mine told me that Aladdin is going to be on Broadway in 2011 and that an actor named Victor Souffrant something is playing Aladdin. He's a grad from Columbia University in Chicago."
Not trying to be mean, but there's no Columbia University in Chicago. It's Columbia College, and that's my school.
I personally think Hunchback would be pretty cool to see. Haven't heard the score that everyone is talking about, but i think the idea sounds like it could work.
Pocahontas! Seriously. If they just freaking hunkered down and figured out how to do the three or four tough parts of the staging, it could be freaking magnificent. The second I get to New York, I'm going to figure it out if they haven't already.
Well, make of it what you will, but Disney Theatricals has registered a "slew of domain names" which provides a clue to at least what someone there is thinking of presenting on stage. Not all are "disney" movies - but ones that Disney must havfe the right to.
The list: (for those who don't want to click the link) Aladdin (AladdinOnTour.com);
Alice in Wonderland (AliceInWonderlandBroadway.com, AliceInWonderlandOnBroadway.com, AliceInWonderlandOnTour.com, WonderlandOnTour.com);
I am most interested in seeing, Aladdin, Hunchback of Notre Dame ( which I think they could do beautifully with the right crew, and directors etc.), Toy Story could work out great also. The biggest flops I can see are Freaky Friday, Father of the Bride, Flamingo Kid, and Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion (major flop in my opinion). I really hope they give Aladdin a go though!
POCAHONTAS POCAHONTAS POCAHONTAS. The only reason there afraid of it is because they want it to be a HUGE production. In my mind, if I were to stage a production of Pocahontas, it would be entirely impressionistic--no sets, minimal props, etc. Focus on the story. And putting some crazy good choreographer in there like Graciella Daniele (who would be PERFECT) and a badass lighting designer could make the show exquisitely artistic without even building a single thing.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks with Victoria Clark as Eglantine, please.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.
