What is March 1st for Gypsy really?

Hi gang,

Does anybody know if March 1st is Patti's last show or closing show? I know she's going on tour a few days later but not even the box office could tell me. Does anybody know? I am really surprised their has been no official announcement.

Thank you!

It is Patti's last show, and since Gypsy most likely won't stay open after she leaves, it might be the closing show too. It could always close earlier than March 1st too. I'm trying to hold out for an official announcement though.

I believe she starts a tour with Mandy Patankin just a week or two later...

It's sad that the show will probably close though, it's doing really well, especially considering how poorly most shows are doing.

There is a thread on this already. If I remember correctly her website shows her tour with Mandy Patinkin starts on March 7th.

Also, I think Patti said it in an interview that her last day was March 1st (and is it on her website too?). I don't know for sure, I'm just trying to remember what was said on previous threads on this topic.

And tickets are STILL available! Kind of shocking...

Patti IS the show! It's called "Patti Lupone Gypsy", for God's sakes. It would be like if Liza At The Palace extends after Liza leaves. Even if telecharge was selling Gypsy tickets into infinity, it would still close as soon as Patti leaves. And if it didn't, then it would close after a drop from 75% to 25% in one week.

Well, by all accounts the show will end sometime between Feb 28th and March 8th. Knowing that, how soon do they typically make formal closing announcements for shows that close around that time?

at the TimesTalk interview last week, RyToast1 asked about the show closing and Patti said that she was leaving March 1st and they had chosen not to replace her.

How sad ... Patti LuPone leaving. Who could they ever replace her with? Maybe someone better? *note a little sarcasm*

I do agree with the fact that the show opened with her as the star vehicle, but it wasn't the right part for her. My opinion was she was weak when I saw it. I could be wrong right now, that she has grown into her part, but I believe if she is as amazing as people think she is ... she would have had the part down pat by previews since she did the show with Encore's.

It is, however, a shame that she is leaving the show, and it will most likely close. Putting more actors and techies out of work. Maybe they should do a concert version of Cradle Will Rock.

Well, I do think the show would be closing by then even if she were staying in it longer. As others have suggested, it's not really certain that it will still be running then even with her. It's actually done very well at the box office all things considered, but I think it will be quite ready to close by that time.

Feb 28 is a Saturday Night- big crowd etc. Mar 1 is a Sun Mat- not such a big sendoff. I have to wonder if Ms Lupone will be willing to bother w a Sun Mat after a big Sat performance. I'm going to be in town that week but I'd like to be sure which performance to book for.

GYPSY IS CLOSING ON SUNDAY, MARCH 1...PER PATTI LUPONE. END OF STORY!!!!!

THE ONLY WAY THIS WOULD CHANGE WOULD BE IF THE PRODUCERS DECIDED IT WASN'T MAKING ENOUGH MONEY TO STAY OPEN UNTIL THEN.

Drop it!

Shows pretty much always close on a Sunday as far as I am aware.
