I for one would love to see a movie of NINE directed by Pedro Almadovar...
JERSEY BOYS is definitely going to be a movie.
WICKED is definitely going to be a movie.
Chenoweth had a first refusal clause in her contract that will expire in 2007. Menzel apparently did not have such a clause in her contract. Neither woman will recreate their Broadway roles in the movie.

Dented--this isn't really the forum for it but let me assure you the people behind Dreamgirls are very happy with the money it's made--it doesn't go full release till this week!

I would love to see Pixar get their hands on Into the Woods or Once on this Island! I think they would both work better as animated films.

Disney very briefly had optioned Once On this Island (I think this was either during or right after production of the too similar Little Mermaid...)

How about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels?

"How about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels?"
I remember reading somewhere a small blurb about I think it was MGM planning a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. It was a while ago, so I don't remember it that much, but it didn't mention if it was going to be the musical or a remake of the original Steve Martin, Michael Caine film.

A movie of Nine directed by Pedro Almodovar sounds like a match made in heaven, especially since Almodovar's women are so fascinating, he'd have a blast with an all-women cast (except for Guido of course). Banderas could reprise his role as Contini given his history with Almodovar. What a brilliant idea.
Apart from Nine I've always wanted to see a Mack & Mabel film. I think the show could work a lot better on film that it does on stage. It'd make a great TV movie. starring Jane Krakowski.

I'd love to see "Grey Gardens" made into a musical film. . with the Drew Barrymore/Jessica Lange version on the horizon, it's pretty much impossible. . but I'd love to see it.
They could really do a lot with the transition from Act One to Act Two. . have it be a grand old-style musical for the first-half, and then shoot the second act in the grainy Maysles Bros documentary style of the original.
I'd buy it

The problem with doing Kiss of the Spider Woman as a movie is that Rob Marshall took his concept for the musical numbers in Chicago from Spider Woman. If this film was made (which I would like better than Chicago), it would be too similar... people in prison with musical numbers in their imagination.
I would love to see Miss Saigon as a film. However, I think many songs will need to be cut or shortened. Among the are Why God, Why; If You Want to Die in Bed; The Deal; The Confrontation, etc.
Ragtime can work if they can find a way to integrate the narration into the film. However, this will be too big of an undertaking for a studio to actually support such an endeavor.
Yes, I'd love to see Wicked turned into a movie. I'd also like to see a remake of the Wizard of Oz using the same actors made if Wicked is successful, with new songs ofcourse.

Jersey Boys is most definately happening and will most likely translate very well. For starters, the show moves at a cinematic pace and about 90-95% of the songs are done in performance (with the exception of "Fallen angel", "Oh what A Night" and "My eyes Adored You"-but there are ways of reworking those songs tofit the format). So, of ansow that's on Broadway right now, "Jersey Boys" would make the best movie.
And Michael Bennett-Absolutely LOVE you idea for Nine. I can only imagine what Almodovar would do with tha material.

Actually, I thought they kinda did La Cage because of The Birdcage. Wasn't it pretty much the same thing without the music? (I haven't seen the show but I have heard it's pretty much the same)
It was a modern retelling of the play that La Cage is based off, so it is the same story. Which is why now may not be the best time to do it. But I still would love to see a movie of this done.

I've always felt the same way, although I'd prefer a real movie.

Did Rob Marshall do the musical numbers in the original Kiss and Vincent do the other choreography or vice versa? Regardless--you're right, it is basically what rob did with Chicago but I think the tone of the pieces would make enough of a difference
I still think for some reason Company would work better as a tv movie ( a good one) or a very intimate indie film--ironic as I love the original staging which was pretty massive I guess, physically.

I know there is already a film version of Cabaret, but wasn't there talk of a re-make not too long ago? I distinctly remember reading an article (maybe even on this board?) where Renee Zellweger and Natalie Portman's names were being thrown around as possible Sally candidates. Maybe it was just a wishful thinking thread, but I wouldn't mind seeing a remake that was more like the show.
I'd also like to see Into the Woods as a film, but I can't really picture it.
Also, wasn't there talk of a Bat Boy film starring Devon May?

If Les Miz were to be turned into a motion picture, I think they should stick with their original plans of filming it for tv. That way, there's less pressure on what the box office will be like and they can keep the artistic integrity of the show. I would love to see an HBO/BBC production of this since they usually produce tv films with the same values as major motion pictures. It can then be released in theaters in other countries, similar to what was done with Bette Midler's Gypsy.
