Wasn't there talk of him starring in a production of "The Iceman Cometh" with Brian Dennehy in Chicago?

I'm gonna bump this. Still wondering.

They announced he's working on a new sitcom for USA, starring as a down on his luck actor who can't get work, because he strongly resembles, but is not in fact, Nathan Lane. It can go either way, I think. Could be great, but Mr. Lane doesn't have a great track record with TV series.

But any other stage work? Like what's mentioned above?

Saw him in Addams Family. Did a great job, but not surprised the show lost a lot when he left.

Not to be confused with Dave19.

many years ago i saw NATHAN LANE in THE LISBON TRAVIATA here in Los Angeles, at the Mark Taper Forum, and actually fell in love him...:)...but he was in the movie version of THE PRODUCERS, which was one of the WORST stage to screen musical adaptations and one of the biggest flops of all time...so his image is a mixed bag out here outside NYC...i wish him well though on this new tv venture...I'lll be watching...

Dennehey is committed to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario) through the summer. Doubt that Nathan would want sit around all summer waiting.

Was there not a rumor that Lane would be "retiring" from musical theatre following The Addams Family?

Nathan made the comment in a couple of interviews that The Addams Family will "probably be my farewell to musical theatre." Then he went on saying maybe not and that you never know. I just think the show's early criticism and buzz left a bad taste in his mouth. I hope he comes back with something great. He wants another Producers, and that didn't really happen with Addams. He was amazing and his portrayle was never called into question, it was the material. Also, he was in the workshops and readings of Catch Me If You Can as Hanratty. I have a demo with him singing a cut song "I Don't Get It" and "My Favorite Time of Year". Did he turn down the show in favor of Addams Family, or did they decide to go another direction with Norbert? Anyone know?

His new show is called ON WE GO. Here's a press release: http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2011/05/03/Nathan_Lane_to_Star_in_USA_Pilot/

He has always desperately wanted a solid film career, but has never had the chance. He may just be trying to focus on film with this, Modern Family guest appearances and he's going to be in The Brothers Grimm: Snow White with Julia Roberts. Then there was that horrible Nutcracker 3D that came out over the holidays. I just hope his new show is a success. He definitely deserves it.

If you believe Seth Rudetsky has any credibility, Lane chose to take himself out of the process for Catch Me in order to do Addams.

I thought I had heard that. He would have been a great Hanratty, but Norbert brought so much to the role Nathan couldn't have brought. Two different performers completely.

I wish he'd write some more. I'm one of the only people here who LOVED The Frogs.

Overkill, Agreed about The Frogs. Nathan owned the show and gave it his all as writer and star. An under-appreciated gem. Wish he would find another broadway vehicle that really suits him (and no, "November" was not that property. Yikes.)

He's in my top three favourite actors (film and stage). He's wonderful. I wish he did get some bigger roles on the big screen as most things he's in - he's pretty much loved by all.

I feel like Oliver Platt gets all of the roles Nathan should get. And this was obvious when Oliver played Nathan in that horrid revival of Guys & Dolls...

Sort of on topic, I just saw a wonderful production of Simon Gray's "Butley" in London, starring a magnificent Dominic West and it got me thinking about the 2006 production on Broadway in which Nathan took the part. Frankly, I can't imagine him in it - did anyone here see it? Does he have the range for roles such as this?

I saw it and he was at his best. His problem is, he gets type cast as Nathan Lane - the character. The one you see in The Lion King, The Producers, The Birdcage - broad roles. But he is actually such an amazing actor with depth and range when it comes to these sort of roles he rarely gets to play. He had the British dialect down and he WAS the show. I couldn't believe he wasn't even nominated when Tony time came around. That was my first introduction to the show, then I saw other productions and no one ever compared to him as Ben Butley.

He played Nathan Detroit in the highly successful 1992 revival, receiving his first Tony nomination, as well as Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards.

He's going to star in the new "Snow White" film. He will play the assistant to the Evil Queen (Julia Roberts).

I want a Birdcage sequel with Robin Williams! Both of them are just the best and a sequel would be even more great.

Wasn't he signed on to do Douglas Carter Beane's new play, "The Nance"? Did anyone see the reading?

Linda, there was a Birdcage sequel announced, but nothing has come from it. I even read in an interview Nathan did recent-ish that he said he hasn't heard anything about it except that it's supposed to happen...

If anyone remembers the horrid sequels to the original french movie La Cage aux Folles on which Birdcage is based, there's no way you'd wish for a sequel! Those movies were painfully sad.
