I will be in NY on 7/25 because I have a reunion with some friends in the suburbs the night before. Thought it would be a perfect time to spend the day in NY without having to pay hotel costs like I normally do.
I am looking for suggestions on what to see. I was planning on trying to catch Assassins, but unfortunately, it will be closed (so sad). I have seen everything (some more than once) except for Avenue Q, The Producers, and Hairspray and all of the off broadway shows that are currently playing.
Any suggestions? I know it will probably be hard to get tickets to Q.

see Hairspray. it is a fun, energetic show. go check out jenn gamby!!
By all means, Avenue Q, especially before any of this cast moves on. I hear the Producers is great now with Hunter Foster in it..Hairspray is great, too. I would see the shows in the order I responded ( BTW--I've seen AQ 2x,The Producers 3x, and Hairspray once.) The only way I would go to see Hairspray again--mostly because there are other things I want to see--is when Peter Scolari steps into the Wilbur role.
They are all good choices! Q will be tough but try!! If you can't I would go catch Hunter in The Producers!
You need to see Aida before it closes but if you son't want to see that again I would go to Little Shop of Horrors.
Bombay Dreams is also the best new musical on B'way right now.
Avenue Q is very possible to get cancellation tickets, if you're willing to risk seeing nothing. I waited for the matinee recently, and the line got long after me, but at 1:00, I was the third person (the two in front of me needed 6 tickets). I got in like right at 2:00. They only got orchestra seats for cancellations, but they were so worth it to sit that close, even though it was the fifth time I saw the show. You really should see it! Don't worry about understudies with this show, if anything, they'll just keep the cancellation line smaller, and make cancellations more likely. I've seen every understudy except for Jennifer Barnhardt and Brian's u/s: they've all been fantastic. I know Jennifer has a great reputation, and I know that in her ensemble roles, her face is more expressive than Stephanie.
Go see "The Producers"! Hunter Foster is great in it!

See a show unlikely to tour.
Sight Unseen comes to mind.
I would see the Producers, if you would really like to see Hunter or a big fan of him. If not, see Hairspray.
Aida before it closes, and Adam is back!
Or
Avenue Q, because it is just histerical
Just what hawkeye said. Aida, simply because it's closing, Adam's back, and it's amazing, or Avenue Q. Funniest thing I've seen in a VERY long time.

go see Caroline or Change! I COMMAND YOU! IT will BLOOOOW The Webber out of your but!
As noted above, I have seen EVERYTHING but those shows listed including CoC (which I loved) and Aida (OBC and first national tour). I decided to get tickets to Hairspray.
Orchestra- in the front- not bad on short notice. I refused to see it when MJW was in it, but I have heard great things about Carly. It just seems like the show any Bway fan has to see at least once.
