And just out of curiosity, why does everyone want shows revived that JUST closed? I mean seriously, bring back some of the older stuff that hasn't seen the stage in a while. As great as "Urinetown" is, it is performed EVERYWHERE, so why would we need a revival? I just think it's silly, but that's just my opinion. And my other thing was, I do think Idina is talented, but there are other people out there equally if not more talented than she. It just boggles my mind that everyone immediately puts her first place as the lead in all these "dream" revivals. Again, just my opinion.

ANYONE CAN WHISTLE -- the score is so 60s-cool and the book is so bang on to today, I'm surprised no one's thought of it.
PRETTYBELLE -- only because it's so terminally offensive. If Mel Brooks can get away with it, so can Prettybelle.
I'm not getting the Funny Girl thing. Why can't someone else take on the role? It's not like it's sacred or something. Sure, it's "Barbra's role" but she isn't the only talented person who could do it. That's a strange reason to not want it back.
For the same reason adamant fans of a certain rock band get incredibly POd when someone else covers the songs.

I like the idea of Ana Gasteyer in Funny Girl.

I agree that FUNNY GIRL is nothing without a great Fanny Brice. I just disagree that Barbra is the ONLY great Fanny Brice.
What, every other generation is just supposed to write off an entire musical because someone is so closely associated with the role? Whoever steps into those shoes will have her work cut out for her...but there are some who could do it (currently, I believe the woman who would do the BEST job is Steph...but she is also not the only one!).

I'm not meaning to offend you in anyway, peggyandvelma, but Funny Girl is the show that made Barbara a star. Not only a Broadway star, but a movie star- I mean, she won an Oscar for the movie! Pretty much her entire career is due to that role. I think that because Funny Girl kick-started Barbara's career, many talented actress who would be great in the role would be afraid to take it. Who wants to follow in Barbara's footsteps?
I'm sure there were trepidations of anyone ever playing Dolly Levi or Mama Rose, but someone eventualy stepped up to the plate and made it happen.
It's just a role, sorry. Yes, it made Streisand's career, but that doesnt mean we should retire it like a baseball jersey number.
TOMMY (I noticed a few others posted this; I thought it was all but forgotten! I enjoyed the original production so much I'd like to see it done the same way again.)
Assassins (I know it was just recently revived, but I missed it).
Chess
Passion (Either full-scale or just concert)
Aspects of Love
Evita (Transfer of London revival)
Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Probably off-Broadway)

I just feel that way about Funny Girl because there is not actress in the whole world that I've heard of that I could see doing it. Babs was just soo perfect in every single way. Just even with the smallest of small gestures or vocal inflections, she made that role special. She really was made for that part, and that part was made for her. Maybe I'll be proved wrong and someone just as great (or dare I say better) will come along, but right now it just seems like a huge impossibility to me.
