Do people not realize that it costs MONEY to perform on the broadcast? And LOTS of money.
Unless it's a small solo or duet number with very little personnel and technical needs, no producer of a nominated show that has already closed is going to pony up the cash if they have zero intention of touring. If SPRING AWAKENING performs it will only be to promote the tour.
I'm torn on what Hamilton should perform. I lean towards Non-Stop because I want to see the girls and the boys and really that song is almost a medley as it is, but they'd probably have to cut it down and that might make it a mess. Or maybe they'd be happy to give a 6 minute performance slot to Hamilton haha I'm not sure.
If not I'd go with Yorktown or The Room Where It Happens. I think those two probably get the biggest applause (Satisfied as well but that really wouldn't work without seeing Helpless first). My Shot would probably have to be cut down and really its power is in the way it builds up, I think a shortened version wouldn't be very impressive.
Michael Arden was on the phone on NY1 this morning and said they would be performing, they just need to find a song aside from what was done the last time and what can air on TV.
Theyd ta better have every damn show possible perform this year if they want to. Tony sweeps make for really boring television, espcdially if most people watching haven't even seen Hamilton.

Something Rotten! had a pretty lengthy (amazing) performance last year, so it could happen.
Bright Star - "Sun Is Gonna Shine" The Color Purple - "The Color Purple" or "I'm Here" Fiddler on the Roof - "To Life" Hamilton - "My Shot" School of Rock - "Stick It to the Man" She Loves Me - A medley of "Will He Like Me?", "Tonight at Eight", and "I Resolve"? This one I really don't know. Shuffle Along - "Broadway Blues" Spring Awakening - "Touch Me" Waitress - "Opening Up"
If some how other musicals perform like previous years maybe "Selling Out" for American Psycho? The Mega Mix for On Your Feet?
As much as I don't like medleys, if they can do a good pairing of Vanilla Ice Cream/She Loves Me for SHE LOVES ME that would be the an excellent choice for them. It is certainly a show that is hard to showcase the full cast but also work as a Tony number. As much as I love the opening, I almost feel it's too small.
I would love to see Shuffle Along do I'm Just Wild About Harry- it's probably the highlight of the show. Broadway Blue is a good introduction, but it's not nearly as exciting.
And please, She Loves Me, no medleys! They never work.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I doubt it. They wanted to perform The Schuyler Sisters at the Grammys but the Grammys asked them to do the opening instead. I also think they know people would be annoyed if they did that one again, especially as it's far from the best song in the show.
The Schuyler Sisters could be an option too I guess. I love it but it doesn't seem showy enough for me.
I'm pretty sure Hamilton won't repeat their Grammy's performance which is a bit of a shame because that really was the best song for showcasing the entire cast. Now, they'll either showcase a few but leave a few Tony-nominated performers out, or they do a medley. Who knows. What I do think will happen is that Groff will introduce the number in character as King George. It makes sense, since it includes him without putting him in the number since he's not with the cast anymore.

"YES! Definitely Non-Stop! I love the way that song builds to a crescendo, and it has bits and pieces of all the other songs! Plus, most of the cast members are in it. :)

The Hamilton team have said they're not a fan of medleys, although In the Heights did a slight medley so I don't know.
I agree about Groff. He as the King introduced (via VT) the In the Heights performance at the Oliviers in London this year as well.

Agreed. I'd love to see Cynthia do "I'm Here" and Jessie Mueller do "She Used to Be Mine" - let these ladies wow a larger audience with their showstoppers.

When was the last time a nominated show didn't perform?

The Mystery of Edwin Drood was nominated in the 2012 - 2013 season for best revival even though it had closed in March. They did NOT perform at the ceremony.
For "Hamilton," I vote for a medley of "The Schuyler Sisters," "What Comes Next," and "The Room Where It Happens." My favorite choice would be "Non-Stop" in full, but a medley could work!
I could see "On Your Feet" and "American Paycho" performing something as well.
"I saw Pavarotti play Rodolfo on stage and with his girth I thought he was about to eat the whole table at the Cafe Momus." - Dollypop
I imagine the Tony producers will want ON YOUR FEET somewhere in there, maybe in the opening, but the idea of having the Tony audience do the conga seems too irresistible for them not to work it in there.
I would like HAMILTON to go with "The Schuyler Sisters" because the women in the show are terrific and it's such a fantastic number, but "The Room Where It Happens" is the showstopper of the night and is the one I'd expect to see them perform (and what a treat it'll be).
A "Vanilla Ice Cream"/"She Loves Me" medley seems the most logical choice for SHE LOVES ME, though I agree with others that medleys don't work. Still, SHE LOVES ME is so hard to pin down to a single number that is representative of the whole show, everything is so character-specific. It's what makes it great but also difficult to promote in a 3-minute segment.
Add me to the list of those who would love to see Erivo perform "I'm Here" at the Tonys.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Well, I'm pretty sure that Charlie Williams will be there (as one of the Tonys dancers). I forget the name of the other dancers (dark haired) who always seems to take part in the telecast.
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

It was very sad and strange that The Bridges of Madison County won the Tony for Best Score and didn't perform at the show.

I thought only best musical and best revival of musical nominees only perform.
