do you think there might be the chance of performances from shows that aren't nominated similar to last year?

I hope it remains the nominated musicals this year. Hopefully Harvey Winestein doesn't give us a preview of Singin In The Rain. I remember a number of years back they had plays do short scenes...I hope we could get that again.
As for what I think will be performed (from the ones I have seen)
Hamilton-My Shot
Shuffle Along- Broadway Blues
Color Purple- Should do Hell no and I'm Here to showcase the two nominated women.
She Loves Me- Good Morning, Good Day or Sounds While Selling
Fiddler- Tradition? Wedding Dance? Who knows

After reading the Hamiltome I think they'll do The Room Where it Happens at the Tonys.
I hope Bright Star will do At Long Last. I think it would cement Cusack's position as a Star and sell tickets. However, sun is gonna shine is the song they made a single version of.
I can see a medley from She Loves Me because most of the best songs really showcase just one person.
I don't remember which song it was, but I hope spring awakening does the one that was in the dark with the finger lights.

Here are my hopes (moreso than predictions):
-Bright Star - A bit of Way Back in the Day to show the cool time transition, into Whoa Mama
-Color Purple - The title song. Or I'm Here. I'd love to feature the awesome Danielle Brooks, but I'm not sure how that would work without it being really disjointed. Maybe an added solo line or two in the title song.
-Fiddler - L'Chaim
-Hamilton - The Room Where It Happens
-School of Rock - Stick It to the Man
-She Loves Me - No idea. A medley of the solos, I guess!
-Shuffle Along - Broadway Blues
-Spring Awakening - Touch Me
-Waitress - Either Opening Up or She Used to Be Mine as a duet with Jessie & Sara Bareilles :)
I don't think I'd miss any of the other musicals, to be honest. Though I do hope they bring back the snippet-of-plays thing. Such strong play contenders this year!

Hamilton- The Room Where It Happens/My Shot
Shuffle Along- I'm Just Wild About Harry
Waitress- What's Inside/Opening Up OR She Used To Be Mine if they really want to focus on Jessie.
School of Rock- Stick it To The Man
Bright Star- Sun's Gonna Shine Again
Fiddler- L'Chaim
The Color Purple- I'm Here/The Color Purple (reprise)
She Loves Me- Probably a medley of Vanilla Ice Cream/She Loves Me/A Trip To The Library
Spring Awakening (if they perform)- Touch Me

Another Round was far and away my favorite number from Bright Star, but, if I remember correctly, Carmen Cusack isn't in that one. JudyDenmark is probably right about which one they'll do.
I still remember the last time She Loves Me was featured at the Tonys -- Boyd Gaines did the title song. They might go for a medley this time, though.

Shows that are closed do not usually perform. Arent' most of the cast CA based? (for Spring Awakening) There is no reason for the show/producers to spend any money (and its EXPENSIVE) to perform.

A Christmas story still performed their year. As did the ragtime revival(though they only had one person perform). It's definitely not a rarity.

My understanding was that Spencer Liff said they will perform if they were nominated. I know they announced a tour, which presumably would be one reason to perform. Whether either of those things will actually happen, we shall see, but I imagine the nomination could make them both more plausible.

Spencer Liff said that if they got a nomination, they'd perform. From everything I've read, I think this whole production was one big lovefest among the cast and crew, so I can understand wanting to get the band back together for one last hurrah at the Tonys. (Never mind that they've announced a national tour - this is great publicity.) Personally, I just can't wait for everyone who missed it to see how magical it was!

This would be interesting since the song and scene you are talking about is all about masturbation!

Really hoping Bright Star doesn't go with "Sun is Gonna Shine Again." It's lovely but really doesn't capture the emotional essence of the sho, nor the magic Carmen Cusack is creating. I'd say the tail end of "Way Back in the Day" into some "Woah, Mama" or, as someone else also said, "At Long Last." Carmen really shines on that ballad, but I'm not sure it represents the entire show sufficiently.

Ha. I didn't remember that. I don't have the cast recording and I don't remember. I just remember that scene being beautiful.

I have a few questions about the nominated shows. Do they have to pay to perform? I thought only shows who aren't nominated had to pay. I know they have to pay the actors for publicity and what not, but would that work for the cast of spring awakening since they aren't even in the show anymore and don't have contracts with the producers. So do they still have to be paid for their rehearsal and publicity?

I would love the Tonys to open with Broadway Blues from Shuffle Along.

I know 'Hamilton' will probably do "The Room Where It Happens" and/or "My Shot", but after listening to the OCR the other day I thought "Yorktown" would also make a great choice. It's fast, has lots of action, gives most of the cast something to do, and it's only 4 1/2 minutes long. And it's a GREAT history lesson!

Because closed shows that are launching tours/other productions tend to get to perform (Scottsboro Boys in 2011, Follies in 2012, A Christmas Story in 2013)

Spencer Liff said that they would likely perform if they were nominated, and Andy on a periscope with Kathryn and the Alexes said that they might. I personally hope they do, I LOVED the production.

Do people not realize that it costs MONEY to perform on the broadcast? And LOTS of money.
Unless it's a small solo or duet number with very little personnel and technical needs, no producer of a nominated show that has already closed is going to pony up the cash if they have zero intention of touring. If SPRING AWAKENING performs it will only be to promote the tour.
