Which musical theater creators (music/lyrics/book) do you hope will have shows produced in the future? regardless of the status of their career... or regardless if they have a current project in the works.

Stephen Sondheim: Buñuel
Adam Guettel: Millions / Days of Wine & Roses
David Yazbek: The Princess Bride
Michael John LaChiusa: The Garden of Anuncia
Jason Robert Brown: Farewell, My Concubine
In general, I'm always looking forward to new work from Jeanine Tesori, Dave Malloy, The Bengsons, Jason Robert Brown, Stew, Marc Shaiman etc. Also interested in Shaina Taub, Peter Mills, Pasek & Paul and many more.

Elton John (devil wears Prada. And hopefully another disney production)
Andrew Lloyd Webber ( love never dies. And I hope he has another 5 shows in him)
Stephen Sondheim ( just give us one more show)
Alan Menken (hunchback. Hercules. And hopefully a couple more for Disney)
Tim Rice ( some collaborations with his old collaborators)
Tim Minchin
Marc Shaiman
Stephen Schwartz (Pocahontas. Houdini. Or something else)
When it's an artist I know and love, I'll always be hungry for their next work. I could go on and on naming artists that fit this category, so I'll limit it somewhat. These are artists who have only written 1 or 2 big shows, whom I'd love to see more work from:
-Peter Lerman (Brooklynite)
-Griffin Matthews / Matt Gould (Invisible Thread)
-Cesar Alvarez (Futurity, Universe is a Small Hat)
-Sara Bareilles
-The Bengsons (Hundred Days, The Lucky Ones)
-Grace McLean (In the Green)
-Helen Park & Max Vernon (KPOP)
-Billy Recce (A Musical About Star Wars)
-Michael R. Jackson (A Strange Loop)
-Anais Mitchell
-Matthew Dean Marsh (Tumacho, We're Only Alive...)
-Jason Michael Webb (Choir Boy, Rose Tattoo)
-Erin McKeown (Miss You Like Hell)

I actually liked The Mad Ones a lot, and I think the next show Kerrigan and Lowdermilk put together will be really great. Maybe their RBG show will be good.
As much as I love Sondheim, I don’t think Buñuel is happening. I’d love to be wrong, but it’s been almost 40 years since his last new show on Broadway.
I cannot wait until the next Michael R. Jackson show. There’s some clips of his musical adaptation of the movie Teeth that’s really good.
I also want to see something new from Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen.
I think JBroadway's list sets us on the right track. I was surprised by how many of the earlier posts seems past-focused rather than towards the future.

While I don't disagree that it's unlikely, I like to think maybe he just took a break and then got busy with Company (let me dream). Also, Passion wasn't even 30 years ago.
What I would give to see a new Sondheim show in my lifetime...
Anyways,
I hope Tim Minchin continues writing for mt. A while ago someone on here mentioned that he was stung by Groundhog Day's failure. I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but basically they claimed it would be a while before he does another show. Fingers crossed.

Artificial Intelligence is going revolutionize a lot in the next decade or so. They’ve already created an AI-generated musical. I don’t think everything will be done by computer, but I could see it having a large impact on many facets of the industry. Not exactly an expected response, but I really see a bright future for collaboration between this tech & creativity.

Revisiting this post, you all offered many creators I already love and admire...
I am excited that some of the musical theater creators I enjoy have projects planned for 2021/22:
-Jeanine Tesori, Kimberly Akimbo
-Shaina Taub, Suffs (and Devil Wears Prada)
-Adam Schlesinger, Bedwetter
-Kitt/Yorkey, The Visitor
I’m also anxious to see JRB, Malloy, Michael R. Jackson, The Bengsons, LMM, and others back on the boards in the future!
Is there anyone else that emerged during the shutdown that is now on your radar?
I'm a big Amelie fan and I think the London production proved how gorgeous the score is. I'm not sure of the writers, but I'm excited to see what else they create. That's one of the scores in the past few years that I revisit quite often.
And I hope "Bridges of Madison County" gets the recognition it deserves in the future. What a perfect score. Sadly not a perfect production.

Nick Blaemire's new musical is Space Dog at MCC. They did a 15 minute preview back in May. TBH I wasn't impressed, it was trying too hard to be funny and cool. Hopefully it will get better.
What's the deal with Scott Alan? Does he even write musicals? I know he works with a lot of theatre people, but he just put out one vocal album after another, with no shows attached. I've given up following his work a long time ago.
The composer Cinco Paul, who wrote Schmigadoon, has a new musical called A.D. 16 that will premiere early 2022 in the DC area. I've listened to the demo on soundcloud, it sounds fun! I'm looking forward to it.

I’d really like to see some musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Even another rice/Webber
I really hope for one more Sondheim
Some more menken Disney (Hercules… I’d love to see him take on sleeping beauty (which I know is a problematic piece. )
Definitely more Elton. I hope once he wraps the tour he starts pushing out a musical every. 2-3 years (more Disney more opera adaptations … la traviata, a Romeo and Juliet type thing… )
I’d love to see a Diane warren original musical
I’m kind of over lin Manuel Miranda
I’d be curious to see how Adele would fair as a musical writer
I kind of wished Joni Mitchell had written an original theatre piece.

Slightly disappointing to hear about Space Dog but maybe it will have developed better by the time performances roll around. I’ve been particularly loving listening to Glory Days lately

Glory Days has great melodies but the lyrics and story are stupid.
Scot Alan is part of this generation of writers who write, for lack of a better word, standards for musical theater singers. He’s got some gorgeous songs. Guess he needs a good bookwriter.

for those interested in Nick Blaemire, it looks like he has another project in development (in addition to Space Dogs at MCC), called Soon. There are two short video clips of his songs in this link:

I'd love to see another musical from Dolly Parton. I know she mentioned last year that she's been working on a stage show about her life for years, but I'd love to see a new original score from her. Perhaps something that's a bit more "lowkey" in nature than 9 to 5.

The possibility of a new Sondheim musical !!

Anything Sara Bareilles does!! Have always been able to hear musical theatre influence in her early albums and I love the way she talks about musicals with such a reverence and appreciation. One of the most talented writers... can't wait to see what she does next.
