Posted: 1/1/09 at 12:03amThere were several OUTSTANDING cast recordings this past year and while I could see any of them winning, I think "Gypsy" is the best of them and easily deserves the win.

I didn't even realize that the 2003 Gypsy revival recording won a Grammy.
The 2008 revival recording is leagues better. I really hope it's honored with a Grammy.

Posted: 1/1/09 at 12:29amNot a huge fan of the quality of the Gypsy CD or the material they chose to include and that which they left out still trying to claim that it's complete. I hope In the Heights wins just because it's a pretty flawless recording. The rest all have shortcomings, in my opinion.

I love the In the Heights recording, but although it may not happen, I really think Gypsy is the better album and deserves to be recognized for it.

OK, I looked it up. The year Bernadette's GYPSY recording won, it was up against MOVIN' OUT, and the revivals of FLOWER DRUM SONG, MAN OF LA MANCHA, and NINE.
Certainly not the same level of competition there is this year.

The best Cast Album of the year, Passing Strange, is not nominated.

Posted: 1/1/09 at 12:42amGYPSY'S production and quality is phenomenal, minus the static on the original copies. I believe they reprinted the albums now without the static.

Posted: 1/1/09 at 12:43amI know Gypsy and South Pacific had two versions depending on where you bought them, one with bonus tracks, one without. Which version gets judged by the Grammy panel?
#16re: Who Will Win The Grammy?

I'm guessing In the Heights will win. It's the kind of thing the Grammys go for. I prefer the South Pacific recording though. The Gypsy recording is fine as well and wouldn't mind if it won. In fact, I don't mind if any of those three win. Three pretty strong albums.

Posted: 1/1/09 at 7:06amIn The Heights is an amazing album and should win. I think it will and I hope it will. But isn't South Pacific supposed to be a great album, I'm sorry to admit it but I have not heard the CD. Gupsy is also very well done but I think it should go to a new show.

Posted: 1/1/09 at 12:07pmWhile some members here will continue to impugn, I think the Gypsy recording went far beyond what might have been expected of it in terms of content and I hope it's awarded for it. To me, it's the most surprising and rewarding album of the nominated recordings and in particular, I was thrilled to hear bits of those orchestrations that I never heard before, as well as all of the bonus songs. I think the cast is captured in top form and I loved the packaging as well.
