I know a few of you were there. Comments?
I don't know if it was just me, but that was the best I've ever heard her sing live. Her pitch was absolutely perfect, and her belt is stronger than ever. She was belting non-stop for 90 minutes. She sang a lot of songs from her torch show/album, her usual Broadway songs, and she even did "Calling You/Get here", which sounded incredible.
I was expecting a bit more talking, and she seemed kind of subdued for Patti. But there was some talking, of course there were jokes about the cameras. She also looked really great. She received standing ovations after "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" and "Everything's Coming Up Roses." The sold-out audience was great. I was just amazed by how truly great she sounded. I admire her stamina, she barely took a break between songs.
Great show.

Yawn.
Kudos to the audience. They don't need cue cards anymore. They're off the book.
Yawn to you Brody.
Patti LuPone is BEAST.
Seeing her on my girlfriends 18th birthday next month! CANT WAITTTTTTTTTTTTTT

Erm, that wasn't my post hon.
I was there, and I definitely agree that it's the best she's ever sounded. I was especially impressed with some of the higher notes in "Calling You/Get Here," when she went into straight tone.
I was a little surprised it was only 90 minutes, and was trying to figure out where she could possibly break for an intermission. but it was such a fun show!

I was there, too.
Loved the show (the Casino may have limited her performance to only 90 minutes, they do that sometimes).
For the first time ever, I had trouble with Patti's diction. This was earlier in the concert when she was singing what I would classify as pop/rock tunes. The more powerfully she sang, the more distorted her diction was. Could it have been the sound system? I really felt that both she and the orchestra were overly amplified. This wasn't the case when she sang show music. Her "So In Love" was ravishing, as was "I Get a Kick Out of You". Wouldn't it have been a pleasure to hear Patti perform without any amplification at all? Surely her natural voice could have filled that 800 seat venue without difficulty.
"A Boy Like That/I Have A Love" was hilarious, but it also hinted tha Patti has a legitimate soprano voice hiding within her.
Without a doubt, the best part of the evening was her "Broadway Scrapbook" segment. These were the songs the audience really wanted to hear and she performed them grandly.
What was the name of that disco number that she used as her final encore? It had some people dancing in the aisles. Too bad the Borgata didn't provide a program.
Cavils aside, I had a great time at the concert and it was a terrific way to celebrate my 62nd birthday. (PS--I made a killing at the slot machines!)
OMG i would have killed to go to that show!
Yea I belvieve the Casinos do limit the time of the performer. My parents frequented Atlantic City often and I would see alot of shows down there.
I remember once Patti Labelle even commented how they actually had a timer and she felt rushed and "NOBODY RUSHES PATTI LABELLE!" the crowd cheered for that. (That was at Taj Mahal)
oh, the time limit makes sense, I guess.
and I agree about the diction. there were a few moments that I was glad I already knew the song, because her diction was a little off. And I also agree that it was probably the amplification.
actually, I agree with most of your post, Dollypop. I've heard her sing "A Boy Like That/I Have a Love" before, but this was the first time I thought she probably could actually sing both parts. Maybe I was still marveling at her gorgeous high notes in "Calling You".
These after-the-fact reviews are nice, but I'm disappointed that no one was live blogging the event.
^ not that I would have anyway, but I had absolutely no cell phone service from about exit 11 on the Turnpike down. I thought it was my phone until we were at a rest stop between exits 11 and 12 on the way home and VOILA! cell phone service.
I did!!!! Patti was absolutely incredible. I had seen the show both nights when she was in Vegas, and I must say, she just keeps getting better and better! Her version of "My Way"...oh my God...It is definitely the single most beautiful thing I have heard in my life. That woman never ceases to amaze me. She is an absolute treasure. <3
And Dollypop to answer your question, the last number was "Nights on Broadway", by the Beegees.
I can't wait till she retires or does a Michael Jackson.
Monkey, did you lose weight?? It looks it!
No, I just take good pictures. Well, maybe I did. I love you.
