Divas and their overinflated sense of importance make me ill. I prefer humble talent.

Reginald Tresilian. His Evita makes me weak in the knees.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Bernadette Peters! But it always rotates between Kristin Chenoweth, Laura Benanti, Bernadette and Patti LuPone. But today it is Bernadette.

Not all divas have that attitude.
A diva (English pronunciation: /?di?v?/, Italian: [?di?va]) is a celebrated female singer. The term is used to describe a woman of outstanding talent in the world of opera, and, by extension, in theatre, cinema and popular music. The meaning of diva is closely related to that of "prima donna".
Mine are:
Audra
Liza
Bernadette
Lupone

And of course the male counterpart to "Diva" is "Divo."

my #1: Ebersole
a close second (tie): Judy Kaye and Audra McDonald
these three have three of the finest voices ever heard in the American theater, and are all around wonderful
then come: Maxwell, Murphy, Clark, Ripley, Skinner, Foster and Mazzie - I'm in awe of each of them
of course nothing beats Lupone and Peters when they are at their best, but this is offset for me by the several times they've been disappointing

that answers the question musically
I was about to answer the question legit, but can a legit actress be a diva (in the sense intended).
Rosemary Harris is the greatest living actress working in the American theater.

Christine Ebersole and Marin Mazzie.
Two underused and under-appreciated gems with pristine voices who truly deliver amazing vocal performances consistently.

That's the most diva-like answer anyone could give to this question.
That's the most diva-like answer anyone could give to this question.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

Anyone who could make me appreciate that piece of crap called SUNSET BLVD (with Glenn Close, the worst show I ever saw), has to know what she's doing. Also, her Edwin Drood, made my jaw drop!
