I think Broadwayboobs is the best Elphaba.
I canNOT wait to see/hear Ms. Julie Reiber as Elphaba - She'll be my new fave tied with Ms. Eden Espinosa.

she's the new LA production standby!

shoshana bean definetly, she had a very different take on the part, and was a vocal powerhouse
idinas acting was respectible to say the least but her vocals were, uh, bad
eden espinosa i respect for her range and her range and vocal strength only
but definetly shoshana is my favorite
Shosh reminds me of Urkel. (Urkle?)
I will never get that image out of my head.
I sais Idina in a previous post but....well I think Kerry Ellis (the replacement come January) might just have trumped her.
If you're in London next year try and see her, she is fantastic and different from any others I've 'seen'.

The original of course ...
Margaret Hamilton.
Ana Gasteyer.
The best acted Elphaba I've ever seen. She wasn't as "loud" as others, but her acting was so spot on that it more than made up for it. She didn't add riffs that weren't written in the score, so you could actually hear and understand the lyrics.
Definitely Karen Ziemba
I'm an OBC snob, so Idina.
Julia Murney comes in as a close second. She is the only actress (other than Idina) that really made the role her own. And that voice!!
I said Sho a while ago, but after I saw Ana this year... I have to say Ana.
She was just... wow. Incredible.

Kerry Ellis!
^ Yay, vote number 2, Kerry's brilliant. I was really hoping I wouldn't like her so I would stop going to see it so much.
No such luck...I like her more.
Kristy Kates and Ana Gasteyer. It's a tie!!!
Holy crap Julie reiber will be amazing!!
Ana Gasteyer.
Her singing is amazing. She doesn't add any riffs or anything. But really, she doesn't have to. I don't really like people who over-riff. I don't understand how people say she doesn't belt. In Chicago, the three times I saw her I thought she really belted. And her "Defying Gravity" end note can't be topped. It lasts about ten seconds.
Her acting is great. She brings out the more human and darker side of Elphaba. She IS dark, but her mother and father and sister are dead, and no one has really loved her. Of course she'll be somewhat moody. But when good things do happen, she does get happy.
Her "As Long as You're Mine" is really unique. I love how she seems uncertain of the whole thing at first. And at the end, I love how after she says, "For the first time, I feel... WICKED!" she attacks Fiyero and wraps her arm around his head.

Ana definitely. She makes the role her own. Sho and Eden's take remind me too much of Idina. Plus Ana's voice is perfect for the role, not at all grating or over the top. Her opera training really shows.
Just saw her last performance as Elphaba last Sunday. The end note of Defying Gravity wasn't as good as the other times I saw her. But win her spoken lines, she sounded like she had a cold.

I have seen two Elphaba's in my life, aand my fav. is Stephanie J Block. The other one is Shoshana Bean, and I was really dissappointed with her, but then maybe she was having an off day.

I saw shoshana and she was absolutely amazing. From her portrayal of the character to those pipes. The girl can sing. However I have to say eden takes my top spot. The darkness of her tone gives elphaba a whole new dimension that makes me think wicked witch. So go eden!!
I've seen Sho and Idina, and Idina clearly wins. I thought Sho was perfect til I saw Idina in London, and there is just no competition. Her voice, her acting, her green-ness, it was all perfect. And Sho's last performance in Toronto was... not pleasing to my ears. But I still love her, don't get me wrong!
