I have seen Hair three times, once in previews from the 6th. row center, once in the front row on the aisle A101, and once from the balcony, front row.
Since the first time, I can't explain why I love the show so much. Each time it's like having a party with friends. I don't want to ruin the experience so I won't go into details but you are not just seeing the show, you are part of the show. Make sure that you go onstage at the end of the show with the cast, it's an unbelievable experience. Two of the cast members put their arm around me and started singing and dancing with me. It's leaves you on such a positive high. When I was in the balcony, Gavin Creel who plays Claude was in the balcony encouraging people to go downstairs to be on the stage at the end of the show. I recently saw Mamma Mia and it was good but it was not Hair. I have tickets again for next Wed night and can't wait to see it again, especially after listening to the CD.
Maybe it's the Age of Aquarius,
or
a perfect Cast, Director,
Design and Technical Team.
Great Score, beautifically Sung.
And Energy to light up the World.
Peace out.
Or utter and intense joy and beauty.
The best show on Broadway right now and, the more I think about it, probably one of the best experiences I've ever had in a theater.
I love this current production so much...brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

I really wish I could see this show. But sadly, I will never be able to
I love the cast recording more than life itself. Who knows, i might get to see it if it's around for a few years.
Then you definitely need to obtain a copy of the book LETTING DOWN MY HAIR: Two Years with the Love Rock Tribe--from Dawning to Downing of Aquarius, written by original cast member (both on & Off-Broadway incarnations) of HAIR: Lorrie Davis (with Rachel Gallagher). It was published in 1973 and of course... it is out-of-print but by no means hard-to-get/find. Its one fascinating book and she chronicles the entire creation and development of the original production, from its casting, rehearsals, Ed Sullivan Show appearance to just about everything HAIR.
It keep my head warm.
I've never heard of that book before, thank you.
I'm also a Hair fan.
Since it seems many on here never heard of Lorrie Davis' LETTING DOWN MY HAIR bible (so to speak), I will post scans from the book later, including all the amazing photos inside -- lots of rehearsal photos and production photos, which also include original cast member Diane Keaton (yes, THAT Diane Keaton).
How much would I pay to have seen Diane Keaton as Sheila when she took over the role? Wow. To have been around back then.
It must be the revolutionary energy of it all. When you leave you just can't help the urge to protest something. Anything at all really! Start chanting 'Hell no we won't go! Do not enter induction center! Yip-yip-yip-yip-yipee!' right outside of Starbucks.
