She can belt "Defying Gravity" and "Always Starting Over" just fine but why not "Let It Go"?
Because it's too high for her and she has no mix.

No, she really can't belt Defying Gravity live. It took her ten years to get to a point where she could sing it as she dows now. Menzel's Gravity misfires were the stuff of legend when she was in the show. Give her 9 more years and a truncated arrangement and she will get there for Let It Go.

Yeah. I suppose it's just one of those songs that require too much effort just to get once.
This is the best live performance I've seen of it and it sounds fine so long as you don't look at her facial expressions :')
Well that last note didn't sound right but you can imagine this is what she looked like recording in the studio

No, sir. There are many women who can sing that song in their sleep.. And a few men too. Some of whom I only assume based in familiarity with their voice, others I say because I have heard them do it... And I have heard several undiscovered young ladies knock it out of the park at karaoke nights.

Well. Yeah. I agree that many other people can sing it but they do use mixed voice.
Jeremy Jordan even did it pretty well.
But Idina belts it out completely. I'm not even sure why. If her voice was just a little more mixed I'm sure it would sound better wouldn't it?

It is because they know how to sing the song. Menzel doesn't.
I am the wrong person to ask as the only time I think Idina sounds pleasant is when she is mute.

Yeah. Idk. The problem with me is I know that everyone else can sing it better but I see something in the quality of her voice that has tons of potential. It's very unique.
Now that we're kind of on the topic of Wicked. Has anyone seen how good Kara Lindsay as Galinda in the national tour
Frankly I've never been very impressed with her at all. Her pipes just don't cut it.
And when I see her all I can think of is her giant white ass from the movie version of Rent. Ew.
"why not "Let It Go"?"
If only more people on here followed this advice...
Idina Menzel singing "Let it go" LIVE during her concert at Radio City Music Hall:http://youtu.be/PdTWJNFR42g.
Ps.This is the dumbest thread. You joined 5 days ago and THIS is what you post?

Well I am new here lol Idk I'm sure you'll find my posts to be pretty random and out of the blue at all the wrong times. My mind doesn't work properly. "If only I had a brain" ^^] have a great day

I think she can sing "Let it Go" just fine live. The only live performance that I've seen her perform "Let it Go" on, that ended with me being disappointed was her performance at the Oscars, but that could've also been an "off night" for her.

@StephanCasey, Have you ever actually seen Idina Menzel LIVE?

I've seen her live performances but not live from the audience. I don't really know why you have to be so condescending. Who's side are you even on?
"I've seen her live performances but not live from the audience"
Just as I thought.
"I don't really know why you have to be so condescending."
You have never been in the same building as Idina and yet you feel entitled to rant about her "incapability" to sing a certain song that ( contrary to your misguided belief) she can and has sung multiple times LIVE. You don't see the problem here?
"Who's side are you even on?"
The rational side.
Based on the Radio City video, I think she sounds good with it live with the exception of the last note. That and she let the audience sing too much.
I saw her in concert two years ago, and she was in great voice. I think her facial expressions show a passion and how intense she is about her singing.
I saw If/Then last week and she knocked it out of the park… She sounded amazing!
I wish people would stop with the negative comments and allow her to enjoy her success! Jealousy is a very ugly emotion.

ShakinBaconGirl I'm not trying to say she can't sing or can't sing this song. I know I worded it that way but I'd just love to see her sing it once and do it really well live and not just parts of it but the whole song.
There are singers that never fail to give at least a solid good overall performance LIVE whether you watch it in person or on YouTube it's really not that much of an issue.
I'm not talking about general capability but specifically singing a song and hitting all the right notes and hitting them well.
Ariana Grande, though many may not like her (or at least most of the songs she sings), is one performer who I've never heard a bad live performance from. She was on Broadway at 15 in 13 if you don't know who I'm talking about.

why can't people just have a difference of opinion and be done with it? some people think she can sing, others think she can't. I personally think she has good days and bad days. At the end of the day tho, she IS singing those songs. She's an award winning Broadway performer and she's laughing all the way to the bank regardless of what any of us thinks.
Having a different opinion is attacking now? You would know all about attacking people, wouldn't you, headband? Still trying to find Namo's FB page?

@Alessio2 I agree with you :) and I do think she can sing. Just my opinion is that she can do better than this. There must be something she can change about her technique.
I am a fan though. I preferred her back in the RENT days though. "Take Me Or Leave Me"
In my case. I'll take her or leave her depending on how she sings on that given day lol. Maybe I should just stick to cast recordings :')

Go see her in IF/THEN. She is wonderful.

Good point. I'll never write her off. I just have opinions on certain songs. I'm in no way one of the people who think she can't sing for s***. Her unique voice does in a way make up for her slightly unreliable belting range
