I wonder if Wicked might have to move its release date in order to avoid competition. I remember Les Miserables moved its planned release date of December 14th, 2012 to Christmas Day (especially to avoid competition with the first Hobbit film).
The release date has changed so many times over the years, that until they announce principal photography is happening, I wouldn't believe any release date they give.
I really think that Chord Overstreet could be a good fiyero, Anna Kendrick as Nessa, James cordon as the wizard, Lin as doctor dillamond, Some options for Elphaba could be Naya Rivera (Idk she is kinda crazy but ya know), Lea Michele, Zendeya (It's a reach) For glinda Dove Cameron, Amanda Seyfried, and Lea Salonga (Not a fan of her but maybe?) For Boq ANDREW KEENAN BOLGER AND BEN PLATT OR BUST

I love Naya Rivera but her singing is good. That's not enough for this role. It has to be out of this world.
And I'm sorry, but Lea Salonga's singing is out of this world, but seriously, Glinda? I really wonder how you see that role? Why would a 46 year old woman with a type of voice that outshines all those Glinda's play a squeaky teenager? She literally is the opposite of that role, type wise, even when she was 20 herself.
Elphaba - Samantha Barks is the only choice in my opinion, don't question me on "How is she the only choice?" I'd also like to see what Shanice Williams (The Wiz Live!) could do with the role. Glinda - Dove Cameron, Anna Kendrick (although my heart is set on Dove with some vocal training)
Fiyero - Jordan Fisher, Derek Hough (if they hurry)
Morrible - Audra McDonald or Meryl Streep
Dillamond - Richard Gere, Steve Kazee
The Wizard - Joel Grey or Martin Short
Boq - Daniel Radcliffe (If the hurry), or James Corden (with come CGI)
Nessa - Anybody that I said for Elphaba or Glinda + Ariana Grande (with acting lessons)
OK, so this is something I've given a lot of thought to... Yes, call me a Musical Theatre Geek... Here are my choices:
Glinda - While Megan Hilty would be my first choice, I don't think the has the "Hollywood Star Power"... Amy Adams would be perfect, but she might be a little too old for the part... Therefore, I choose Kristen Bell (But let's not rule out Jennifer Lawrence just yet).
Elphaba - Nicole Scherzinger or Christina Aguilera both have the vocal chops, but I'm not sure about their acting abilities, and by the time the movie is finally made, they also might be a little too old... Anna Kendrick seems like the obvious choice, and I can't see her not being in the movie. But Emily Blunt would also be a great choice.
Fiyero - Billy Magnussen, Aaron Tveit, or Chris Pine (Depending on who Glinda and Elphaba are)
Boq - Daniel Radcliffe, Skylar Astin or Zac Efron
Morrible - Meryl Streep... it just has to be
Nessarose - Anne Hathaway or Anna Kendrick if not cast as Elphaba

I'm sorry.. but as much as I love her.. Emily Blunt I do not think could handle the score, and she's also getting up there in age.
We're nearly half way done this year and we got nothing yet for a movie that is supposed to come out next year that could have a lot of CGI special effects. This ain't happening.

I’d say if we don’t hear anything by November, then we should be worried. It’s a little premature to say anything now. Movies nowadays can be made and released in the span of nine months.

Ariana Grande has not been cast as Elphaba, though I imagine she might screen test
The film has not yet started screen testing because it has not yet started casting.

It's not dead, but I'd wager it is certainly in Development Hell. A 2019 release date is still possible, but I am not sure that it is very likely at this point. Projects come and go like the waves in Hollywood, especially when those projects are musicals. I wouldn't be surprised if we see this one come and go a few more times before it gets a real green light, production budget, official director, or cast. We all need to keep in mind how many false starts Evita, Chicago, Dreamgirls, Phantom, and Into the Woods had over the course of their development. It is certainly not dead, but there is no need to get too excited just yet; it's better to wait until a trailer comes out.
Last thing I seen about the film was from someone's Instagram story at the Oz-stravaganza event, Stephen said they were past planning stages and starting to think about casting, Daldry is still involved.
As you said, you want to look at more adult roles and you performed on TV for the first time on “Fallon.” Would you want to do something outside of theater like film, TV, or maybe even a movie musical in the future? Yeah, if the people who are in charge of the “Wicked” movie–looking at you, Marc Platt–would want to cast me as Elphaba, I would obviously give all of my internal organs to do that.
To fly in the air and sing “Defying Gravity.” Oh, my God, yeah. Elphaba is really a role, whether in theater or in the movie, that I’m dying to do. It’s such an awesome part. I think anywhere where there’s a role for a female hero to play, that’s what I’m interested in. Because I’ve often been asked: “What do all these roles have in common? What are the roles that you’re interested in playing?” And I want to play heroes. I think that’s what we need to see from women. I would enjoy playing villains, too, but I don’t think we need to see more female villains right now. I think we need to see more female heroes because they exist all the time every day in my life, and I think it would be fun to keep seeing more and more of them. I also think playing a straight-up Marvel superhero would be so awesome."
BTW, the above is talking about Barrett Wilbert Weed wanting to play Elphaba in the Wicked movie. Wouldn't be that mad about it, but they might want a name that's known to the public.
