Wicked Movie Seeks New Director

I think Chu will be fine. He knows how to edit and supervise music into his films in an effective way and he has a good sense of pacing that will fit a musical film.

I have seen Chu's work in the Step Up movies, Now You See Me 2 and Crazy Rich Asians. In the Heights should prove he has what it takes to bring a work of beauty to life

What is he saying? Like, Playbill and Broadwaycom aren’t allowed to release press articles that have anything to do with the Wicked film? That’s obnoxious.

That’s not how editorial works at all, but he’s been known to be incredibly dramatic and take certain liberties on social media

Anna Kendrick is Glinda

Lolz. Never ever ever ever. It's a musical, a good singer is required so not a nasally bird.

Well, she's obviously good enough to have already done two stage musical to screen adaptations...one a Sondheim!

Casting Glinda will be the real challenge, IMO. Elphaba has the script and storyline and "Defying Gravity" to get the audience on her side. Glinda is a delicate balance of comedy, drama, belting, and legit soprano voice. She has to be someone you understand why Elphaba wouldn't like but have a draw anyway. She has to become humanized as the show progresses. She has to sell the comedy (but please don't make her a cartoon) while making it believable that she'll grow into a mature person who can make people believe she's "Glinda the Good". And she has to manage to sing in different styles...and sing them WELL. If "No One Mourns the Wicked" is weak (in terms of acting, singing, and presence/charisma aka getting the audience to understand why she's the image Ozians want to look "up" to), then that's sort of it for Glinda.

I wonder if they'll release it in 2023 to tie in with the 20th anniversary.

I’d love to see Julie Andrews as Morrible. You get the nostalgia of her appearing in a movie musical and you get to surprise the audiences who wouldn’t expect her to be the villain.

Um hello, you gotta have Liza as Morrible for the Garland throwback.
Unfortunately I doubt she is up for it.

Sadly, she isn’t up to task physically. She’s now wheelchair bound and can only stand up for a couple of minutes if needed. Having her walking around is out-of-the-question and though Morrible isn’t vocally demanding, her vocals are also not what they once were.

This is Liza in 2018, when she was doing a bit better.
