Oh man.
I have no idea why they didn’t get Baz Back years ago.
But I had also wished they’d gotten idina and Kristin
The names mentioned as folks interested in directing this back in 2010... geez some of them are my nightmare directors for a musical I love as much as this one (Ryan Murphy, Rob Marshall esp). I am hoping they find someone who will try to direct this in a mature way, but keep the camp quality. No trying to appeal to only kids and not their parents crap.
Something bad is happening in Oz.

I actually wouldn’t mind Rob Marshall. I’ve seen Annie, Mary Poppins Returns and Chicago.
Wonder if Mantello has ever been a serious contender for this?
But doesn't this film just scream for a woman director? Taymor?

You are right! Taymor or even Greta Gerwig would pique my interest quite seriously.

And why's that? Is this because of genuine reason, or because you're just being a skeptic for variety of reasons unrelated to the material/project itself? If latter, I don't think we actually what's going on in the room so best not to speculate?
Great Gerwig would be quite interesting. Do I want it to happen? Unclear. Her approach tends to be quite literal

Can’t wait for the Ryan Murphy version where Glinda and Elphaba are recast as hot men who spend the whole film naked.
Sarah Paulson as Madame Morrible and all other roles, people he’s worked with before every time he does one of his awful shows.
I’m surprised they haven’t just given it to Ryan Murphy to mess up like he does 99% of everything he touches.
Is Ben Platt automatically Boq?
(And before you say it, no one wants to see him or his brother as Fiyero - who will not be white anyway)

They could use the same CGI company to de-age him in Dear Evan Hansen and shorten him in Wicked!
I think Ava DuVernay would do a terrific job. I know A Wrinkle In Time disappointed some and did not set the box office on fire, but I thought the craft of the film was terrific.

I would love to see what she would do with this.
Would also love to see Mantello direct since he knows the show.

Please for the love of Oz, no. Although we'd Oprah for Morrible, which could work.

Maybe Patty Jenkins?

This movie musical will happen! I wish some of you would stop trying to tell them to stop trying to make it. I will tell you why this will be made. Broadway is closed. Who knows when it will open. I know what you might say..Its suppose to open Fall 2021...
However, I think Movie Musicals will be being made quicker now that Broadway is closed. Movie Theaters will open sooner than a Live Theater will, said by true.. I personally miss the live experience..but I would settle for a movie musical.
Look at what's being made and what is going to come out
- The Prom: Netflix 2020
- West Side Story : December 2021
- Dear Evan Hanson: rumor has it out by 2021
- In the Heights: 2021
If Broadway was thinking right they would record the show like Diana has and put it out on streaming..
Any Thoughts.. ( These are my thoughts)

I'm not sure if spectacle and camp is her style. Making Wicked a thoughtful, quiet musical would just expose how bad some of the lyrics are.
If the right Julie Taymor showed up, it could be interesting but I haven't seen her in years.
I think you need someone who treats the material as serious and earnest the way He Who Shall Not Be Named gave weight to the very obvious allegory in X Men. Or you need someone to treat this as fluff and appeal to the teen girl demographic. What's Kenny Ortega doing?

I hope whoever directs has a unique vision.

I am open to Julie Taymor. Imagine the lavish spectacle

She's incapable of directing performers.

My top 3 directing picks are Steven Spielberg, Patty Jenkins, and Joe Mantello
