Will this show ever see Broadway again?
If so who would YOU cast?
I hope "Funny Girl" returns to Broadway, but I don't think it is possible to cast any of Broadway's stars in the role of Fanny because nobody is right for the role. I would love to see this show come back with a newcomer in the role.
I would prefer Mrs. Idina Menzel as Fanny...she would be cast perfectly in that role.
I could definitely see Idina in that role.
Idina Menzel doesn't play comedy well also i think she doesn't look the part.....i think she is far from Fanny Brice....
Maybe Kate Reidners(Sp?) or Stephanie D'Ambruzzo(Sp?) if they have the vocal power for it....
Stephanie D'Abruzzo wouldn't be able to sing the role.
okay physicality aside i think Sutton Foster would be Fabulous....but i think she is to "big name" for it....
i agree with a smaller level star getting the role....
I thought of Sutton Foster, but I don't think so. You're right, too big a name.
I love the show but it is an incred demanding role. Fanny is on for like 80% of the show. Not sure any one can sustain that 8 shows a week. Well, not any more!!!
FUNNY GIRL is one of the only, perhaps the only, "diva" musical that is also a romance.........Yes, FUNNY GIRL will be revived on Broadway someday.
I was just watching an interview with Kelly Clarkson last night in which she said she was discussing doing a revival of this show. The interview took place in December...it's possible things have changed.

Debbie Shapiro-Gravitte.
Ana Gasteyer
Better she should be funny than a recording artist.
And ps: Jewish-funny. Not just loud like a certain Yente...

I know Ana Gasteyer played the role in a regional theater and I heard she was great. I can just see her in the role
I would cast an unknown.
I don't like when certain shows are cast just for a big name. Fanny Brice needs to be cast by look, voice, and comedic timing; not because Kelly Clarkson wants to do it, or because Idina Menzel is a Tony winner.
I like an idea someone mentioned to me, that some are waiting for Lauren Frost to turn 21 and then cast her. That is an interesting casting choice. I think she would be great, but I can hear all of the Barbra comparisons already.

I could see Sutton Foster----she has that slightly gawky, but incredibly talented look that would be perfect.

Stephanie Block or Ana Gasteyer...anybody else would ruin the show...ruin IT!!!
This was the first broadway show I ever saw.....saw Streisand near the end of her run before Mimi Hines took over. Having seen Stephanie J. Block play Fanny, I think she would be perfect for B'way. Saw Block in FUNNY GIRL at Music Theatre of Wichita in 2001. She was great.

Hasn't everyone done Funny Girl in concert or regional theatre? In one concert they had Idina, Kristen and Susan Egan singing in the same night. Can we talk about really different voices. I think Idina might be able to pull it off with a little bit of work. I'm not sure I can see anyone on Broadway now doing that part. Who knows, maybe the next Barbra Streisand will get the part in the revival and will take the world by storm.

Stephanie J. Block needs to play Fanny on Broadway. Having BEEN IN "Funny Girl" with her (in Thousand Oaks, CA), she just needs to play it on the Great White Way! She WILL do the role on Broadway and win the Tony for it!
my vote would have to go to miss leslie kritzer. she was fanny in the paper mill production, got RAVE reviews... and she is relatively unknown. but i would love to see this show back on broadway!
stephanie block would be perfect.
