According to the Associated Press, Xanadu is postponing its opening to an as yet undetermined date. Apparently, it is also unclear whether James Carpinello will return to the production.

I can't see them cancelling the show because a no-name actor hurt his foot. It's not as if the money backing the production and the advance sales are because of Carpinello.

Nowhere in that article does it say that it is unclear whether Carpinello will return to the production. It says it is unclear WHEN he will return to the production.

Posted: 6/13/07 at 4:02pmExactly, Munk. They won't cancel the show because of Carpinello...they will (or should) cancel the show because it is awful.

Posted: 6/13/07 at 4:05pmIt is awful and it'd be wonderful to see it not open. That won't happen though. I like the people invovled too. It's a shame the show's so bad.

XANADU is simply postponing it's opening -- no where was it called off then called back on.
Numerous hit shows have postponed their opening, not once but several times.
FUNNY GIRL postponed it's opening several times.
It's more than apparent that this postponement is due to Carpinello's foot injury. I'm quite sure they want him to be back in the show for it's opening. Period.

- I was giving an example of the Sweet Charity history.
Right now Xanadu is at, star breaks foot, show postponed. Sweet Charity followed the same path.

I rarely post more than one message about a show i've already seen and posted on. However, since some people seem to make it quite clear, over and over and over again, that they didn't like Xanadu, I would just like to chime in again, and say that I loved it and had a great time! I didn't think it was bad, or awful or terrible! I can't wait to see it again. I feel bad about James Carpinello however, hope he has a quick recovery.

I miss the days when shows that did not belong on Broadway closed during previews. Xanadu is more of an off-Broadway show.
It seems to me that James Carpinello has made a series of bad career moves beginning with his dropping out of the original production of Hairspray to appear in a film. Whatever happened to that?

That's because it had producers that wanted to burn money.
I doubt it made a cent, playing to empty houses at the Hilton.

I miss the days when Broadway was a place where all types of theatre can have a shot at making it. Oh wait...it is!
Good grief...theatre people are so judgemental.

Posted: 6/13/07 at 5:41pmI wish him a very speedy recovery. I'll be seeing it next Saturday (can't wait!) I am not looking for anything deep and profound just fun for this trip.
