I can't remember the first show I saw... something about Raggedy Ann (I was little), but I remember my first Broadway show perfectly, down to what I wore.
I was 11 and my cousin (who's quite a bit older than I) took me to see The Secret Garden. I was mesmerized and was hooked.
I'm going to NYC in a couple weeks and am going to take said cousin's daughter (she's to her first show, Mary Poppins. I hope she feels the same way I did. Passing on the tradition...
Let's see. My childhood is all muddled memory. But I remember seeing the Beauty and the Beast National tour back in 1997 and then saw Phantom in Toronto in 1999 and saw Annie National Tour in 2000, so I guess Beauty and the Beast was my first national tour. I finally made it to NYC when I was 17 on a school trip and the first show we saw was Young Frankenstein, and despite the criticism, I had a blast!!!
First tour was Grease in 1996 - I was just turning 7. First Broadway show was later that year - The King and I. I still remember exactly what I wore, too.
Mine was Beauty and the Beast, which we saw shortly after it opened, so I was about 8. I must really have a terrible memory, though, because I only barely remember it.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

"A Chorus Line" in the spring of 1988 during the show's original run. Followed that week (I was on a youth group trip) by "Starlight Express" and "Les Miserables" while it was still in the Broadway. The trip also gave me my first off-Broadway show - "The Fantasticks" at the Sullivan Street.
Thanks to my parents, when I was 12 years old they took me to see The King and I in NYC. That was when I fell in love with Broadway shows. Seeing Yul Brynner on stage as the King was awesome.I remember bits and pieces of it but what stands out soooo vividly was the standing ovation when Mr. Brynner came out at curtain call. I remember trying to stand on my chair to look at him. I was so short and the guy infront of me was freaking tall. The show was amazing. I remember thinking OMG...thats the guy from the movie The Ten Commandments. lol.

My first professional theatre experience was when I saw Li'l Abner at Musicarnival in Cleveland, a few hundred years ago. I was THRILLED from start to finish. My first actual NYC Broadway show was Victor/Victoria with the original cast. Mesmerized by Ms. Andrews and Rachel York.
My first True "On Broadway" show was "Sweeney Todd" with Angela Lansbury in 1979. Have been in love with her ever since. Have not missed her in a Broadway Show since then.
I hate this thread, because people are either late bloomers to Broadway (I Wish!) or I am way too old.
My first Broadway show was the original "Into The Woods", and after I saw it, i said to my friend who saw it with me, Joanna Gleason will be nominated for a Tony and win, Bernadette was amazing, but Joanna was perfection in that role. As I am from Australia, i have to say my first Broadway show (or first musical ever) was Jesus Christ Superstar, still recognised as a landmark production. The artistic team went on to stage it for it's London premiere. It changed my life forever.
Interesting thread since it sort of reveals our ages Mine was Peter Pan in Boston with Sandy Duncan in 1978. First BIG hit was A Chorus Line tour around 1982 at Sunrise Musical Theater in Florida.

Kiss of the Spider Woman, just after it had won its Tonys... It was my 1st trip to the city (for my 14th birthday). My father informed Chita @ the stagedoor and she serenaded me. It was SO awesome and one of my fondest theatre memories!
I hear my first was Secret Garden, but all I remember from it was the dress I wore. The first show I remember seeing was Peter Pan with Cathy Rigby, a gymnast/theatre fan's dream come true!
"I've never encountered such religiously, you know, loyal fans as Broadway musical theater fans. It's amazing."

The thread asks for "1st BROADWAY show" - I saw a lot of tours and professional theatre before my first NYC trip.
The first show I saw on my first trip was Onward Victoria, not an auspicious start. I loved the score and costumes, thought the book was an utter bore and the leads (Jill Eikenberry and Michael Zaslow) barely competent. But Beth Austin, as Victoria's sister, was terrific. I wonder what became of her...
The composer, Keith Herrmann, went on to do the entertaining (but also not quite good enough) Romance, Romance. I wish he had the opportunity to do a good real Broadway musical with a good book writer and lyricist. I liked his music for both shows.
1st Show - A field trip to see "The Miracle Worker" in Charleston, SC when I was in elementary school in the early '80s
1st Musical - The Robert Goulet "South Pacific" tour in 1987
1st show on Broadway - "Sunset Boulevard"
"You pile up enough tomorrows, and you'll find you are left with nothing but a lot of empty yesterdays. I don't know about you, but I'd like to make today worth remembering." --Harold Hill from The Music Man
My first show, technically, was BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (with Toni Braxton as Belle) when I was 4 years old....though I don't remember a damn thing except we were in the left box at the Palace.
My first show as a regular theatregoer was RENT in 2007 at age 13.
