I was just listening to the song "Misty Roses" by Bobby Darin, which has the line
"You look to me like love forever"
Which strikes me as being one of the most divinely romantic lyrics ever!
What are some of your favourite romantic musical theatre lines/lyrics?
(Just one line, as opposed to a whole song!)

All of "The Next Ten Minutes" from The Last Five Years, but especially this one:
"Will you share your life with me/For the next ten lifteimes/For a million summers/Till the world explodes/Till there's no one left/Who has ever known us apart"

"What makes me love him?
It's not his singing.
I've heard his singing.
It sours the milk.
And yet, it's gotten to the point
Where I prefer that kind of milk."
("What Makes Me Love Him?" from "The Apple Tree"... Sheldon Harnick, lyric.
Oh, and Jerry Bock's music don't hurt nothin' neither.)

Give me that hand, please,
And the itch you can't control,
Let me teach you how to handle
All the sadness in your soul.
Oh, we'll work that silver magic, then
We'll aim it at the wall.
Love may make you blind,
Kid - but I wouldn't mind at all.

Sometimes I'm not quite sure if it's September or if it's May
And lately I'm forgetting what happened yesterday.
But I remember very clearly yellow roses in the morning
A breakfast tray and napkins trimmed with lace
And the songbirds were singing as the sun came through the window
And I lay there gazing at your sleeping face.
No matter how old I get
I'd be willing to make a bet
That I'll never forget how much I loved you.

I wouldn't call this romantic, per se, but it involves the theme of romance.

Cole Porter's 'So In Love'
'so taunt me, and hurt me,
Deceive me, desert me,
I'm yours, till I die
So in love... So in love...
So in love with you, my love, am I"
Gets me every time.

Some enchanted evening
When you find your true love,
When you feel her call you
Across a crowded room,
Then fly to her side,
And make her your own
Or all through your life you
May dream all alone.
Once you have found her,
Never let her go.
Once you have found her,
Never let her go!

Once I laughed when I heard you saying
that I'd be playing solitaire,
uneasy in my easy chair.
It never entered my mind.
Once you told me I was mistaken,
that I'd awaken with the sun
and order orange juice for one.
It never entered my mind.
You have what I lack myself
and now I even have to scratch my back myself.
Once you warned me that if you scorned me
I'd sing the maiden's prayer again
and wish that you where there again
to get into my hair again.
It never entered my mind.

Or make a song
Do anything
Say it somehow
I will understand
I know you"

History Boy-That lovely lyric is from "The People in the Picture". The song and scene are both quite moving.
I think my favorite lyric would be the one already mentioned from "Passion". That show teaches about the true nature of love, I think. (And the song "No One Has Ever Loved Me" could easily be quoted in here as well.)

All through the years I've held oceans inside
Held back the tears
And the waves and the tide
The dam had to burst
And the currents collide
With the flood of emotion I can no longer hide
We should be close
As stars are to heaven
Shoreline to ocean
Birds to the blue
We should be coupled
With a lifetime connection
We should be joined
Like we're one and not two
Yes, you should be loved
In the way I love you

Posted: 5/23/11 at 10:45pmI love "Lie to Me" from Women on the Verge, quizking101. It's one of my favorite songs from the score, and I do feel like while not romantic in the traditional sense, it's got some really raw romantic emotion!

Obviously the entirety of "Loving You" from Passion, but also
Write to me with sentimental effusion
Let me revel in romantic illusion
from "Yours, Yours, Yours" from 1776
or
In only a moment we both will be old
We won't even notice the world turning cold
And so, in these moment with sunlight above
My cup runneth over with love
My cup runneth over with love, with love
from "My Cup Runneth Over" from I Do! I Do!
or maybe
Will he know that there's a world of love
Waiting to warm him?
How I'm hoping that his eyes and ears
Won't misinform him.
from "Will He Like Me?" from She Loves Me

I’ll take your side.
If I’m the only one,
I’m used to that.
I’ve been alone,
I’d rather be
The half of us,
The least of you,
The best of me.
And I will be your prince,
I’ll be your saint,
I WILL GO CRASHING THROUGH FENCES IN YOUR NAME <--- Favorite line
I will, I swear,
I'll be someone to fall back on

All of "Too Many Mornings," but my favorite part, especially when sung by Barbara Cook:
How I planned
What I'd wear tonight and
When should I get here,
How should I find you,
Where I'd stand,
What I'd say in case you didn't remember.
How I'd remind you--
You remembered.
And my fears were wrong!
Was it ever real?
Did I ever love you this much?
Did we ever feel
So happy then?
