I don't consider LA VIE AND ROSE to be a movie musical at all. So as brilliant as she was, she will not be on my list.

Does it count if the person in the musical isn't doing their own singing? Like Audrey Hepburn or Natalie Wood or Deborah Kerr?

1. The entire cast of Rent-Well, considering all but 2 were in the original Broadway show, I would expect them to be good.
2. Gene Kelly-Singin' in the Rain 3. Judy Garland-The Wizard of Oz 4. Julie Andrews-The Sound of Music 5. Jane Powell-Seven Brides for Seven Brothers 6. Howard Keel-Seven Brides for Seven Brothers 7. Nikki Blonsky-Hairspray 8. Zac Efron-Hairspray-Yes, I cannot believe I'm saying this. LMAO!!!!! Other than this movie, I hate him. He is definitely nowhere near as good as Nikki Blonsky though.
I think that's about it. I can't really think of anyone else right now.

The fact that someone would rate the cast of RENT, Nikki Blonsky, and Zac Efron's performances among the top ten performances ever committed to film in a musical is frightening. I weep.

Well, heaven forbid we have different opinions. If we all thought the same thing, then we would have nothing to talk about. :)
Now if we were talking about worst performace ever in a movie musical, then for me, that would be Marlon Brando in Guys and Dolls. He just royally sucked, regardless of having a big name. Yeah, I think I'll stick with Zac Efron over him any day.

Hey now, Jesse L Martin and Wilson Jermain Heredia legit DID give some of the best performances I've seen in a movie musical. Truly. And Rosario Dawson and Anthony Rapp actually get honorable mentions in my opinion :)
But I agree about Nikki any Zac. And I like Nikki and Zac quite a lot actually! But they're certainly no where NEAR good enough to be on a list like this yet. Maybe some day, but not now.
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.
Heather Headley "Aida" Robert Preston "The Music Man" Gordon MacRae "Oklahoma" Yul Brenner "The King and I" Frank Sinatra "Guys and Dolls" Shirley Jones "The Music Man" Anthony Rapp "Rent" Joel Grey "Cabaret" Jesse L. Martin "Rent" Gene Kelly "Singin in the Rain"
Kasie, unless I'm very wrong, there is no movie of AIDA with Heather Headley.
