I agree that Sunset Boulevard is one of ALW's best musical (perhaps THE best), that the music is gorgeous, and it's a fantastic story (thanks to the fantastic original screenplay). But those LYRICS! Embarrassing!
Scarywarhol ... I am glad you agree! I think it is up there with Phantom (my other favorite of ALW. And yes, there is no denying that some of the lyrics are ... well...
Crazy For You would work well in today's economic/emotional climate: Audiences want 'feel good' and big scale, two things that C4U provided in spades.
If tapped well, the musical is just a showstopper. It just going to take two leads who are utterly charming and are true triple-threats. I still thought that Jim Walton's 'Bobby' at Papermill was perfection. Granted, he's too old now, but someone with his charisma, dance skill and timing.
I did NOT prefer Jodi Benson as the OBC 'Polly' at all. Much would have rather seen Ziemba get Broadway and have Benson take the first national. Eh.

KISMET (which has never been revived if you don't count the 1970's reworked all black staging called "Timbuktu")
THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN (It may not be a hit like "The Music Man", but the movie version was a monster hit and the show has been a reliable hit in regional theater for many years.)
WILDCAT (which was a big hit that only closed early because star Lucille Ball got exhausted and abruptly left the show. Christine Ebersole would be great in a revival.)
FANNY (yes, Encores is doing a concert version in a few weeks but that is not the same as a revival)
DESTRY RIDES AGAIN (another great Harold Rome score, with a well written book and exciting choreography)
CARNIVAL
CAN-CAN
ROBERTA (A fantastic Jerome Kern score, second only to Show Boat)
IRMA LA DOUCE
HIGH BUTTON SHOES (one of Jule Styne's earliest and best scores)
ASPECTS OF LOVE (Andrew Lloyd Webber's finest score, in my opinion, which deserves another chance with today's audiences)
All of these shows (except maybe Aspects of Love) were hits in their time and feature song scores that are arguably better than anything written in the last 10 years.
LOL -- I was going to post Aspects of Love. I thought I was the ONLY one that liked it, despite the repeition of music. (I loved it actually. The only ALW I ever liked. Mind you, I've never seen Evita on stage.)
and most definitely: PIPPIN. Please. Maybe with Matt Doyle?

I think Crazy for You! would be perfect! who wouldn't want to sit through a show with a fantastic gershwin score and a great book by Ken Ludwig. Ashley Brown would make a wonderful polly.
Undoubtedly, MAME ('83 revival doesn't count), PIPPIN and EVITA are the winners of this poll. I don't think THE MAGIC SHOW would work today, even with Chris Angel (who would never do it) or Copperfield (who certainly would never do it).
P
I'd like to see a revival of Evita, but so far I haven't really liked any stagings of the show other than the way it was done by Harold Prince so I'd probably vote for a "museum piece" that others would find boring.
With the success of shows like it (Chicago, Cabaret) I think PIPPIN would work very well in today's day and age. Casting ideas? I think it would be extremely smart to revive this.

I've been advocating for a Pippin revival for years now. I mean, I think it could do well, but I think it'd need to be cast properly (Cameo for Betty Buckley as Bertha-anyone?) and also I think that it might be a bad idea to push it RIGHT on Broadway...it could be a hard sell because of how dark it really is...I don't know if audiences would still appreciate its sophistication in displaying such morbid concepts. But that could be just me... don't attack me for saying it.
Miss Saigon. Just throwing it out there.
Kenan Thompson would agree!

Has anyone mentioned "Tommy"?
I think Funny Girl would be awesome.
I think Mame would be good as one of those old "Disney TV Musicals". Possibly with Liza, or the once mentioned version with Cher.
Pippin, to me, has already been "revived". A few years ago there was the production that toured the US and Canada.
Also, to say a show like "Cats", or "Miss Saigon" a show, IMO, that hasn't been away from Braodway for a "long" period of time wouldn't do so well..."Ragtime?"
CATSNY, I definitely agree with the Evita staging thing. I also think adding "You Must Love Me" takes away the edge the show, and character need.
For both Evita and Funny Girl...I think the best choice might be to cast an unknown (or lesser known) actress and surround her with more well known costars.
Every time someone mentions CATS I feel ill.
