Audra McDonald - Dreamgirls (I know it's only a concert, but her legit voice drives me batty over pop arrangements)
Heather Headley - Dreamgirls (again^)
I have to agree with that. As much as I love me some Audra, that concert was a no-no. Her scenes were great to listen too though. I still think they could have helped poor Heather out and lowed the key at least two whole steps. It would have saved her, and the people listening, a lot of pain and embarassment.
I'd have to agree with the others, I love Laura Benanti, but Wedding Singer wasn't for her. Hopefully she'll follow it up with something fabulous that suits her better.

Patti made me hate Fosca. I did not understand why anyone would leave Audra McDonald's Clara for her. She lacked the dignity Donna Murphy gave to the character, and she was very hard-hearted: not sympathetic in the least.
Andrea McCardle as Mama Rose in a recent regional production of Gypsy in Houston.
David Carradine in DRS...it makes me wonder if he was just cast because of his "name" status. He looked absolutely bored and lifeless up there on stage. I saw John Lithgow in the role as well, and didn't realize what a bad role Lawrence could be if not played the right way.
Patti in Sweeney
Brooke Sheilds in EVERYTHING
Kate Reidners in Wicked
Gary Beach in La Cage
Katie Clarke as Clara... I know her story was amazing and inspirational, and I'll admit I really loved what she did character wise, but o lord that singing. I couldn't get past it. I felt like she spat all over that beautiful score.
Patti LuPone as Fosca - I haven't seen Murphys, but something about Patti just wasn't right.
Michael Cervaris as Giorgio - it was mostly the voice that killed it for me.
On the record, I LOVED Kerry Butler in LSOH!

I don't think Katie was miscast in Piazza. Granted she's not of the same vocal calibre as Kelli, but she's far from having a bad voice. She's very much a developing performer in that respect. And I think that the bright quality that it had was very appropriate (especially given the theme of light) it just come forth a exhuberant and shining. "Bright" is the best word I can think of. For that reason I felt she word vocally as well as character-wise
iliketheater, are you basing that opinion on the aired PBS Special?
Jim Dale in BARNUM. The man can't sing!
You gotta be kidding me. Jim Dale miscast?
ooook - we're all entitled to an opinion.. but WOW.. I couldn't disagree more!
By all accounts Katie Clark was having vocal problems during the filming of PIAZZA. She may never have sung the score like Kelli O'Hara, but I don't know that what you hear on the PBS special is an accurate representation of how she sang the role for the majority of her run...
I will second Audra McDonald in DREAMGIRLS, and will throw into the mix Brian Stokes Mitchell in SOUTH PACIFIC. Both of whom were wrong for their roles, but managed to give great performances anyway.
Andrea McArdle was miscast as Fantine in LES MIZ. Christine Baranski miscast as MAME, Melissa Errico as Dot in SUNDAY. There are lots and lots...

MisterRussell - ....you're kidding, right?
little_sally - It was KEITH Carradine, not David Carradine. But yes, he was miscast.

iliketheatre: Yeah, I thought Cerveris sucked vocally, but I pretty much always hate his singing, so I thought that I ought not to mention that.
lostgirl: Clara's a soprano role. Katie has trouble singing high notes. Therefore, she was miscast.
(I know that she's in my avatar so this probably makes it pretty ironic, but we LitP fans don't have many pictures and therefore we take what we can get. )

I know ill pull crap for this, but i really didnt like Laura Benati in TWS. She was just not good, i think shes a great performer, but not as Julia.
And of course ANYTHING that Constantine is in. He drives me nuts. Leave Broadway, and just sing.
Really? I loved Laura as Julia.
Yeah, I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I despise Jim Dale's BARNUM performance. His constant scoops and rummaging for a pitch are jarring to my ear. No apology.
I also can't stand Chip Zein's non-performance in INTO THE WOODS. Absolutely awful.

....you are heartless...haha. Oh well! Everyone has their own opinion.
NathanLaneStalker - just wanted to say thanks for allowing me my opinion without attacking me personally. Rare on this board these days...
Well I love Audra, but part of me thinks it's Audra's Clara's fault. Marin was perfect in the role in that Clara was always somewhat distant and cold. She cared for Giorgio but it was clear she didn't really need him. She wasn't vulnerable, really whereas Donna Murphy's amazing Fosca was entirely vulnerable. Audra's Clara looked as if she needed him desprately, which made you feel for her almost as much as Fosca, who in Patti Lupone's portrayal (I think for me, part of it was due to to the lack of tears and the lack any real vulnerability) upset the love triangle balance causing you to feel for Clara more.
LuPone was terribly miscast as Fosca, you did not feel for her. Donna Murphy wore her heart on her sleeve, her passions were transparent at all times and so she made it easier for the audience to feel her intensity and strong emotions. LuPone was just...LuPone, I could never buy her as someone I should really feel for or support, especially with McDonald's poor Clara on the other end.
Majority of all the stunt casting that has ever been done.

MisterRussell - You're welcome!
EDIT: To tell you the truth, Chip Zien is not the best actor but he's okay. I liked everything I've seen him in so far though.
Jamie Lynn Sigler (sp) - Belle in B&TB, I love the play, but she was just horrid as Belle.

Buffy and ray: I could not have said it better, myself. Also I felt that LuPone's Fosca lacked dignity and just seemed like a crazy woman. The lack of vulnerability and her seeming so hard also played a role.
Audra's Clara was too warm and loving--not distant at all--and that did not help.
