I'm suprised that I'm the only one who listed Sarah Jessica Parker in Once Upon A Mattress.

She wasn't awful, there's just better people.
I'm gonna chime in with Richard Kind in DRS, also Dennis Parlato (stand-by to Lawrence, u/s to Andre).
DJ Rudd in Aida (Current Zoser in the NET)

I saw Dennis Parlato in DRS (when it was my first broadway show) as Lawrence and I was completely bumed out because half the reason of wanting to go was because of John Lithgow! But I thought Dennis was a fantastic Lawrence although I also saw him as Andre and he sucked in that role. But he was a great Lawrence!

Glenn Close in Sunset Boulevard. I first heard it with Patti and was thrilled and after that Glenn's rendition almost made me sick.

Sho in Wicked. She not only sang it wrong, but I think she just doesn't look the part at all, either.
And (don't get me wrong, I loved her in everything else, but...)Julia Murney in Wicked. I just thought she looked way too old to play the part.

I didn't like Clarke's singing on the PBS special or live.
I understand why it didn't bother some people given the character's youth, but after falling so in love with the score I had a really hard time listening to her do it.
I saw one of the last performances, and the cast was BRILLIANT. She did a great job with the acting, but "The Beauty Is" did nothing for me, and she couldn't reach the notes on the title song, which just killed me.

Raviolisun...
i agree with you on julia, but i think sho was an amazing elphaba. she had the heart and soul and really was great, in my opinion.
i thought gary beach was GREAT in la cage... idk what you guys are talking about.
laugh as much as you want but i LOVED christy carlson romano as belle haha
other miscasts:
i disliked julia and steph j as elphaba
harvey in fiddler
rosie in fiddler
most of the "wizards" in wicked, esp. ben vereen! ahhhh no way!
lauren kennedy in spamalot; just horrible
yell or scream: norm lewis as javert in les mis- doesn't fit the part in my opinion.
thats all =]

I'm going to have to say Natalie Cortez in the new Chorus Line. I like her has a performer in other roles, but I just feel that she comes off too much like she's acting, like her Rican attitude seems too put on, and it always takes me out of the moment.

As far as Idina Menzel in Wicked. Idina is certainly not miscast in the roll--she created the damn thing for God's sake.
The same could be said for many of the other people listed here-- maybe you don't like the performer but that doesn't mean they are miscast it just means you don't like them.

IMO, Tony Danza was the biggest miscast in The Producers. No talent. at all.

The rumored Mario Lopez in The Producers.

thank you! haha. Seriously, everyone's entitled to their opinions I guess but I just think idina is PERFECT for wicked. Heck, I bet you anything that a lot of the character is built off of her own personality! And the look too, NO ONE fits the wicked- witch look like idina (she has *very beautiful* sharp, distinct features that, when green make-up is applied, come out even more and make her look gorgeously witchy-fierce)
Sho, on the other hand DOES seem a bit mis-cast. dont get me wrong, I love her voice, but just... she's not the right actress for the part and doesn't have the vulnerability elphie needs
I could see daphne as fantine being a little mis-casty. I mean, from what little I've seen I actually like her in the role, but I definitely wouldn't have ever though "oh she's such a fantine!". no way.

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

I'm not even that big a fan of Idina's but I think the notion she was miscast is idiotic.

I couldn't disagree more. I felt like that Puerto Rican bite was really necessary. I saw her understudy in it last night and was thoroughly disappointed because she gave no impression of being Puerto Rican. People I think were miscast:
Katie Clarke in Piazza
Every single Fiyero in Wicked other than Norbert and Taye (maybe Sebastion can make the cut)
Charlotte in ACL is god awful (and Michael as Zach could be better)
Ali as Cosette in Les Mis (though the whole thing pretty much sucks)
Kendra as Glinda (she's not a soprano, so why?)
Hugh Panaro as Lestat (Drew Sarich should have played the part the whole time)
Idina as Amneris (she totally didn't fit the part, Sherie was SOOO much better)

Gary Beach and Alexander Giamagni (I STILL CAN'T SPELL HIS LAST DANG NAME! haha) Were fantastic.

::Ignores Les Mis revival bashing because she's already professed her love for it too much::
I second Tony Danza statement.
Augh, why??
Oh, and I haven't even seen or heard from it, but David Hasslehoff.
He is going to sully the name of Roger De Bris all over Las Vegas.

Rue McClanahan as Madame Morrible
Vanessa Williams as the Witch
Haylie Duff as Amber
David Hasselhoff in Jekyll and Hyde (I bought the DVD because his “Dangerous Game” is hilarious!)
Kate Reidners as Glinda
A lot of Chicago's recent casting.

You know what bother me about Shoshana Bean's performance (along with a lot of the Elphabas and too many performers these days in general) was not only her need to try and sound different from Idina but her need to try to impress everyone with how "great" her voice is via ridiculous riffs.
I'm not saying that was her intent, but how it came across to me, only my opinion.
I mean, if Elphaba is trying to escape from these guards would she really waste time riffing?
I just felt like even though she does have a lovely voice (though i agree her "e"'s are really annoying) she needed to remember its not a concert, its a musical PLAY, and therefore she needs to be an actress before anything else.
I liked the simplicity of Idina and Julia's versions because they really got across emotion, while still making their own marks on the songs, and throughout remained ELPHABA, instead of Shoshana just being Shoshana onstage singing Elphaba's songs.
anyway

How Idina Menzel was miscast in Wicked is beyond me.
Idina as Amneris, is minor miscasting. I think she sang the score far better than anyone else, though.
Michael Cerveris in Sweeney Todd, I think was terribly miscast. I think he's marvelously talented, but he was all kind of wrong for the role. I still wish Marc Kudisch had done it.
I also want to say Manoel Feliciano as Toby. It's quite evident the guy is very talented, but for me there was something about him that was so wrong for Toby. A certain lack of innocence or dependence on an older figure.
