A really fantastic, no bullsh*t, responsive post from Playbill:

I appreciate the second and third points Playbill is making the most. Two years ago, the charter operator for my school sent the staff from my school and the staff from all buildings they charted to a PISAB Understanding Racism workshop. Difficult and eye opening.
Were any sites taking part in Black Tuesday? I had a full day and didn’t have time to check if any of the major ones were.

Be specific. Articulate what you demand and why. Shouting slogans won't get you anywhere.

What a stupid thing to post. Saying that black peoples’ lives matter is worth saying out loud, especially by these companies and people with a social media platform.
Many, many people and companies are also posting organizations to donate money and time to, as well as educational resources.
Articulating and demanding that the police stop murdering innocent people of color IS pretty damn specific. The system is inherently racist - it’s not as simple as you make it sound.

What you are saying only makes sense in the liberal bubble of New York. Outside of it? Just take a look at the videos on TikTok under the hashtag #looting and the comments. I've never seen such destruction in my life. The divide hasn't been wider since the Civil Rights movement and the antagonism from both sides has never been stronger. You need to be more specific than chanting a slogan that only agitates people on one side instead of starting a real conversation that might come to something constructive. Right now it's all emotions. How do you plan to stop police brutality? Yelling it won't stop it, or it'll be over decades ago. You need specific, doable demands on different levels, a plan, or a roadmap to actually get there.

Girl.
The only way I'd accept this is if you were literally born yesterday.

Dancingthrulife2, while initially I was sceptical about the effectiveness of the riots (including questioning the violence) and the social media posts around this, what I have observed over the past few days is that actually it has been a major success and this is not just confined to 'liberal new york' (I don't live in the USA and I am not American). The proof I suppose will be to see what happens next, but this has been a major, major success for those that wanted to raise social awareness of racial inequality. I do cringe when I see tweet's like those from Lea Michele or certain organisations and wonder how much of the social media posts are genuine vs have less-genuine motives (e.g. appearing social desirable or in the case of organisations, making sure they are perceived well by the public for commercial reasons). But overall, it seems like only good can come out of this.

In regards to those posters who wondered why the cast of the "West Side Story" revival hasnt made any statements: I guess they dont want Officer Krupke on their case! ![]()

What a horrible, demeaning experience for her. That show has been problematic since the second it was announced. No wonder they made the bare minimum statement on BLM. What a dumpster fire of a show.

Was she singing the Rosalia or Anita lines? Isn't the whole point of the Anita lines that she does indeed think the island is a slum? If she didn't feel comfortable with that I'm not sure why she would audition for the role. If she was singing the Rosalia lines then I suppose the director was completely misguided but I assume not.
ANITA
Puerto Rico . . .
You ugly island . . .
Island of tropic diseases.
Always the hurricanes blowing,
Always the population growing . . .
And the money owing,
And the babies crying,
And the bullets flying.
I like the island Manhattan.
Smoke on your pipe and put that in!

The note De La Rosa says she was given was "sing it like the slum that it is," (so, the director's opinion of Puerto Rico), not "sing it like the slum she/Anita thinks it is."

If she isn't able to let go of her personal life for the sake of a character that despises her homeland, she simply shouldn't audition for the role only to get worked up the director was directing.

The projection used for the song, however, suggests exactly the opposite of what you are accusing.
