Not especially - most of the music is informed by European folk (much of it from the Finnish songwriters Varttina) and this is blended with music from A.R. Rahman. There is nothing as 'in your face' as any Bombay Dreams/traditional Bollywood numbers.

EDIT: There's a couple of videos on the official site which should give you a taste of the music:

re: did anyone get the LORD OF THE RINGS recording today?

So I got mine in today from amazon.co.uk and the first thing I did after admiring the nicely done cd/dvd booklet was to stick in the dvd...I soon realized that the dvd is indeed PAL (not NTSC - US standard) so it didn't work until I put it in my region free player (just throwing this info out there for people wanting the dvd, thinking it will play in regular american dvd players). Once I got over my "duh" moment though...WOW, the show/score sounds beautiful in 5.1 and you get some lovely production/behind the scenes slide shows on your screen during the entire album.

Another pleasant surprise was that the actual recording of "Lothlorien" is not the one you hear as the sample music on the official site. While that clip was beautiful and is what prompted me to buy this CD, this new recording is just...sublime. Also the track "Wonder" (the other Laura Michelle Kelly song) sounds amazing with the style of reverb they chose.

re: did anyone get the LORD OF THE RINGS recording today?

Went to the show last week, slept through most of act one, and left at intermission. Beautiful show, definitely not one to see whilst battling jetlag, it's pace is so glacial. Though truth be told, the stalls weren't too full, and I wasn't the only one nodding off...I don't even bother to look into buying the CD that's on-sale at the theatre.

Cut to being at Dress Circle, where they're playing the songs, they're really pretty, and one makes me cry in the store, and of course it's not out yet. So I'll probably order it now that I'm back home.

PS I always try to get my stuff throught Amazon.co.uk, they have the best prices!

Everythingtaboo i was just the same

Went to watch it last year and it was so slow, the sets, costume, lighting us brilliant but they seem to forgot to make the show interesting, a few people walked out when i was there, and i suspect they do on many nights
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna

re: did anyone get the LORD OF THE RINGS recording today?

I got the cd a couple days ago from Footlight and I love it! What a nice surprise! The music is very interesting, and pretty and the few actual songs on the cd are all very good (with the exception of Gollum song, but I see its purpose).

I would love to see this show live as I have heard a lot of the same things about the show being slow and somewhat boring. If the show is over 3 hours long and the cd only has an hour or music, what is happening the rest of the time? :) I wonder if this is more of a highlights cd. hmmmm

re: did anyone get the LORD OF THE RINGS recording today?

Michael Rupert had this CD as a giveaway on his Myspace page this weekend.

I'm happy to say I was the lucky one to win it. Can't wait till it comes in the mail.

re: did anyone get the LORD OF THE RINGS recording today?

I have gotten and listened to my "Lord of the Rings" CD and I really enjoyed it. My favorite parts were probably Galadriel's songs("Lothlorien" and "Wonder"), yes Laura Michelle Kelly is great. Michael Therriault sounded freaky(in a good way) as Gollum. Arwen has some pretty songs, and I found the Hobbit's songs fun.

I just got mine today! Happy V-Day to me! I really enjoyed it, epically "The Cat and the Moon" "Lothlorien" "Gollum/Smeagol" but my favorite was "Now And For Always" I also think that the book/CD case that its in is AMAZING. I this it may be the coolest packing of a CD that I have ever seen. One thing I was surprised about was that Frodo didn't have his own song, I just figured he would have a ballad or something. Anyway in my opinion totally worth the money and the wait!
