Had the most amazing time this afternoon! The energy was INCREDIBLE. There was a TON of physical comedy improv. The cast was having such a good time. Victoria did a bit before Better where she zipped up Debra's sweatshirt after she was inappropriate to Seth as well as one involving leaning on a wall. There was also either a bit or a save when the string on Victoria's party hat broke and Allie gave her hers. Allie held the broken one on her head and posed for an extra picture with it.
Bonnie's aforementioned break and the resulting standing ovation was certainly a highlight and got everyone emotional for the last stretch. I was emotional, but held it together until Great Adventure. I lost it at the end though. I mean, if I was seeing the show for the first time and you told me that they'd rewritten some of the lyrics just for the closing, I'd wholeheartedly believe you. I mean, "We're crying because we're almost done. Time's flying, it's been a lovely run and so fun, so fun," what else could that be about besides closing a show? It totally got me and I was crying quite a bit.
The stage door was a wonderful time as well. So many friends, family members, and fans together celebrating the show and everyone involved with it. I got David Lindsay-Abaire, Jeanine Tesori, and Jessica Stone to sign my (already full-cast-signed) Playbill and had a lovely chat with Jeanine. I told her about how I did a community theatre production of Shrek with my Mom and sister and what a special experience that was. She shared how happy it makes her to hear about people loving and connecting with Shrek.
Side note, it has been a LONG time since I've been on 44th/45th between Times Square and 8th when there are this many shows starting at the same time. I believe Akimbo, Notebook, Outsiders, Elephants, Suffs, Lion King, Mother Play, and Neil Diamond all had 3 pm performances. It was definitely a bit of a madhouse getting in. But, it was nice to see so many people coming out for a show on a Sunday afternoon.
