dancingthrulife04: This isn't completely directed at you; I'm trying to work out what is going on here, because I did get a similar impression earlier in the thread.
If that's true, then all the tickets for Fri, Sat, and Sun matinee would still be available because exchanges are only being done up until the 4th, and the 7th if you had tickets for June 1st. The public can already buy up until September 4th. They are not exchanging performance per performance; I already tried, and they are not letting go of anything on that weekend.
If the 5th, 6th, and 7th matinee are not on sale and can not be exchanged for, who is buying those tickets? Why would they not be on sale now, if every day including up until the last was on sale when the closing was first announced?
I had tickets for May 31st matinee, fourth to last show. I'm furious; some of you can relate.
Who can I call to complain about this/annoy? I've already hit Ticketmaster and the Box Office. Ticketmaster said there was nothing they can do; the box office was not helpful.
How are people invited for the invite-only performances? Do I have to sleep with a producer, or what?
The same people who gave us the lottery now give us this. A lot has changed in ten years.
Get over it. They don't owe you anything, but they're setting up the ticket exchange to help out the fans. They're going out of their way to help fans and you're still throwing a tantrum because it isn't good enough for you. Ever stop to think about someone besides yourself and consider who the invite-only performances are for? Perhaps former cast and crew members? Jonathan Larson's friends and family? Maybe they'll even auction off the tickets for charity. Just because you can't go doesn't give you the right to criticize their motives when you know nothing about them.
If I were at the box office or Ticketmaster, I would have told you to call back when you could behave like an adult instead of a spoiled brat.

I think that's what a lot of people are wondering. I don't think anybody here knows. I don't understand, either, but I'm sure the information will eventually be released. I'm not sure what to do, but I figure the only thing to do is be patient until the confusion clears.

don't play the victim now.
Orangeskittles was tough on you but he was honest. get over it and move on.

What did you expect? Everyone to agree how evil and mean the producers are for not letting you personally go to the fourth-to-last show? The producers are letting you exchange your ticket for free. Be grateful for the opportunity instead of whining about it.

Fiercey516: Sarcasm.

foreverfoxfire: I also have 6/1 matinee tickets. I'm sending a letter when I mail them, asking them to let us exchange for that weekend. It probably won't make a difference, but at least they'll know people are upset about it...?
Then apparently you also need to learn the meaning of sarcasm, because that isn't it.
At the box office, they were telling people that the last "public" performance was 9/4.
Man, everyone is confused !
Now I'm confused...
I called and the box office manager was very understanding and honest. He said he doesn't know if/when the last performance dates will go on sale. They may not be on sale to the public at all. The exchange is available up to September 4th. That is the same date that the last tickets are on sale for.
How many invite only performances can there be? And at that point, is it even meaningful? "I'm going to an invite only performance of Rent, but there are three others after that."
I'm not going to take off two days of work for the 6th to last performance when I can spend that money and time on other things. It's just not worth it.
If there are cast members I want to see, I'll do it earlier in the final days. It's not worth the chase for this nonsense.
I think it is fabulous to have invite only performances, but I have a feeling those tickets will go on sale LATER. That way people who had tickets to the final Friday, Saturday, and Sunday matinee will have to rebuy for the final days if they want it.
What's confusing? The last show anyone can buy tickets for is September 4th. Maybe they're going to do what Les Mis did and have the closing shows be for former cast members or something, but as of now, the "closing show" for the public will be September 4th. People are making this out to be more difficult than it really is.
Thanks for sharing, Hermione.
Totally agree with you !!!
So many "invite only"--- INSANE !
I just find this so funny. Like we didn't expect this to happen? Of course they're going to screw the old whore that is RENT untill she dies, flopped over the nightstand.

Maybe they're doing what Les Mis did and inviting back all of the alumni like, ever, and can't fit them all in that house at one performance? (Especially given that some of the final show IS open to the public, and the Nederlander isn't that big.) I have no idea, but just a guess.

And those performances wouldn't be open to the public?

Apparently not, at least so far. I also think that some of those seats will be available after the exchanges are done and the invites are settled. I'm sure that some of the invites will not be able to attend.
And, where did you get that great picture of Leo? I hadn't seen that one.
Let me just say that I bought my ticket to the June 1st final performance for $60 when they made the initial announcement, then sold it for $1000.
So glad I didn't keep it.

I had a conversation several weeks ago with the "bathroom" lady at the Nederlander. I believe she said something about them inviting anyone who had ever been in the show back, that they had a lot planned for the closing. Doesn't surprise me that they have a few shows blocked off, but I won't be surprised if last minute seats become available.

Even people who've been fired or banned?
